Could have told you that it wasnt 1953 0r 1954...then ladies were dressed in ball gowns and singing about grown up things
Youth culture/schoolday-angst was a few years away

Let's try to help phrase the question correctly first , we might then work towards a logical answer , bearing in mind a site about records on 78rpm format although has some members with enough good memory ( and if you are ever lucky ) a copy of any relevant discs and a machine capable of playing it, wont neccessarily have the expertise to solve lost lyrics questions - they are quite difficult (see any radio quiz for the ratio of winners to questions posed to prove this ).

1) Country of release , presumably English Speaking , but I guess from the type of style of lyric its a USA release in the first instance.

2) I presume it was sung by a female artist - this may have been in the question as asked elsewhere , I cannot remember.

3) Genre of song , I assume not rock'n'roll / blues or Country/Western. So what I might call the 'Homespun / Doris Day style of music'

Therefore we are looking for words written from 1950-1957 to allow for mis-recalling dates , with a female artist release from around 1954-1957.

I don't think either 45cat or 78cat as yet have sufficient entries from those times to allow a guestimate to be found meeting that, so are there other databases where lyrics are held , or listings of Billboard release notes in chronological order that could be looked at ?

thank you for a reply..i bought the 78 in northen nj..along with about one dozen other 78..i made a cassette of about 9 of them so i have the lyrics..the song never made the top 100 for 1956..so not too many records were sold..i remember listning to allen freed broadcast in ny..so the dj,s were pushing lots of 78 at that time..looks like no one ever put lyrics on the putter..and i have tried to find a key ;phrase to remember the title of the 78..only title i can think is "jhonny"..i found a web site that had lots of no hit songs from 56 out of ny..but didinot see any thing ..now thinking some one had to write and maby copyright the lyrics.but dont know where to go to find them...if i post a few thousand requests with the lyrics perhaps some one will remember it or..if i offer to buy a copy of the record..maby a dealer will keep a ear open for a sale to me..is there any one who will search for a fee???..any help appreciated..chaarles..:o)..for some reason i think the artists first name is cathy...:o)..

could it be
Cathy Carr - "Speak For Yourself, John" Fraternity F-765 1957 ?

or Cathy Carr

Johnny's Song - Roulette R-4323 1961 ?

I cant find sound files to confirm though.
