I HAD to have a good sort out last summer, and my collection of about 1200 cassettes and some 8 track tapes had to go. Some of them were "taped copies" from vinyl, radio etc from the 1970's & 1980's. A lot of them were normal bought versions. I offered them to some charity shops who said they did not want them, and I ended up taking them all - except Beatles originals that I still have - to the local recycling centre for disposal. DAMN !!!!.
There seems to be a renewed interest in them of late

You are not alone... I did exactly the same thing. Wish I hadn't really, or at least I wish I'd only dumped the copies/homemade ones and kept the originals. There were certainly a few singles among them that might have been useful this week but hey ho...

I think there may be some cassette singles lurking around the local chazza actually... hmmm...
EDIT: There were, but only a few, and I could only bring myself to buy the one I just added on here (so my collection now totals a whole ONE cassette). Even at 5 pence I couldn't bring myself to buy the Take That tape {shudder}, though you know, I might relent one day if it doesn't get added. I can always then use it to fill a small gap in the dustbin.
I HATED buying cassingles... they just never "felt" right to me but in some cases one didn't have much choice since vinyl editions became rarer and worse what vinyl there was was getting pressed on bad quality cheap vinyl. Too many brand new pieces of vinyl in the late 80's and very early 90's I'd get home and find crackles and unacceptable surface noise.
Regardless to say I didn't buy that many cassingles and worse, the ones I did buy were disposed of 5 years ago!
That's not saying I hate cassettes... on the contrary, cassettes were priceless in enabling me to make hundreds of hours of my own recordings of my life and adventures so still have a large cassette collection... plus the fun of creating mixtapes... I've still got all those... everything in fact except officially released cassette singles or albums!

I was fortunate. Having a huge record collection at the time, I didn't switch to buying singles but kept buying the albums and then recording them for portability. I never had any store bought tapes to throw away, just hundreds of homemade ones (and they were the high end expensive chrome cassettes as those were the only ones that could record at 120 minutes!).

Cassingles brought an extra dimension to collecting particular artists. I have several REM ones, for example...
I had "Radio Song" on Cassingle (long gone) and I seem to remember playing it to death as I loved one of the "B sides" - was that the one with their version of "Love Is All Around" on? I think it was.
Most of the ones I bought were because I saw them cheap and just snapped them up on a whim. The only one I had that didn't fit that category was a US-import of Metallica, "Eye Of The Beholder" b/w "Breadfan", which was interesting because EOTB wasn't released as a single at all in the UK. That one I lost years ago, probably in one of the many shared houses I used to dwell in, and that's the one I probably wouldn't have chucked away.

Hi Iggy
Welcome to the site and many thanks for your contributions so far - I see you've already made a sizeable contribution to the database!
However could I suggest you take a look at the Guide To Adding Images? What you've done is great but you should probably give this guide the once over before you submit any other images.
Just shout if you get any problems and someone will respond in due course.
Cheers
Nick
PS Apologies for not picking this up sooner before you had added 55 images!

Hi,
Thanks for the welcome, and yes, I've read the guidelines, but unfortunatley I don't have access to either a scanner or a digital camera, just my phone, which admittedly must be nearly as old as some of the cassettes!!
I thought that it was maybe better than nothing, but for future submissions, I can hold off putting a picture on until I can get my hands on a camera.

Welcome Iggypig
You have probably instantly become our cassette single expert!
We had to do a world for cassette singles as we were doing al the other formats (7",12" & CD) but as you say it tends to be the forgotten l'il brother.
Those images are fine for now, we're just happy to have someone new adding to the website and archiving this forgotten format.
We've had about 80 added in the last month, so I'd hope for 1,000 by the end of August.
I'm still scanning them, but I think I've only about 30 or so left to add. Unless I find the other box I'm sure I have somewhere!
Any chance of mentioning cassettes on the front page of 45cat? At the moment it's the only World without a direct link.

Looks like my December guess is way out then :-) Nice one Iggy.
Can't help you with your search for more though I'm afraid but if I come across anything I will certainly let you know!
My local charity shop gets them in sometimes but all the ones I've hoovered up from there I've already added on here anyway. Not many. I've since recycled them.
