Notes

With more than 45 seasons, the new program 60 Minutes is the longest-running series in US prime time network history. At various times in its history companion series have aired in prime time including 60 Minutes II (aka 60 Minutes Wednesday) (2004-2005); 60 Minutes More, revisiting past 60 Minutes features (1996-1997); and the children's news program 30 Minutes that aired on Saturday mornings between 1978 and 1982.

Since 60 Minutes II and 60 Minutes More were simply add-ons to the original series rather than actual spin-offs per se, I added them as alternate titles as I don't see the need in creating new listings for them. (This applies only to the US original, of course.)

Added a title screen from 1984 so we have an image for this, but if anyone has an earlier one (preferably from 1968) please feel free to replace.

As I explained to you in a PM, 23skidoo, this was my only inlet to comment on the Australian version. And incidentally it was meant as a comment but by misadventure with the mouse(gotta stop feedin' it the wrong type of cheese - ha-ha), my comment went into the review section instead. I don't know yet if anyone has posted an IMDB image from the Australian version. If and when someone does put up an IMDB from the Australian version, feel free to transfer my remarks to it!

I think Neil Forbes' review should be moved to a listing for the Australian series. There is no connection (other than perhaps inspiration or maybe the licensing of the title) with the US series on CBS. Not that the US 60 Minutes is entirely scot-free of controversy, of course!

Incidentally, 60 Minutes was reportedly inspired by a Canadian newsmagazine series called W5 which has been running on CTV since 1966!

Here in Australia, this(the Australian version) has come to represent the nadir of TV journalism! All that's trashy and tabloid-style, as if it came directly out of Murdoch's gutter-press! I used to watch it years ago(1977 when it first started on Station TCN-Sydney, and through Station NBN-Newcastle) but it quickly degenerated and now sits in the gutter with the rest of the scum.

With literally dozens of people appearing in this series, I just listed those identified as being hosts at some point. Having trouble locating a 1960s-vintage title card for this, but of course there are many more recent ones available.
