I'm thinking back more than 30 years now but I recall Alan Alda didn't approve of AfterMASH which would explain why he never appeared on it.

This series did get some airing on Australian stations(but I'm not entirely sure both series were screened here), I remember seeing it through Station NBN-Newcastle. I enjoyed it, but yes, I would've like to have seen Alan Alda, Mike Farrell, Loretta Swit oreven G.W. Bayley to appear in recurring guest spots, perhaps they should've brought Gary Burghoff in as a permanent cast member as Radar O'Reilly, that may have given the show at least 5 seasons.

Although often described as a flop, this follow-up to MASH actually did manage to survive for two seasons. It probably would have lasted longer if they'd been able to get Alan Alda or Loretta Swit to appear for a guest role (they did manage to get Gary Burghoff to appear as Radar a couple of times, at least).
