Notes

PBS anthology series showcasing avant-garde short films and performance pieces featuring myriad singers, dancers and performance artists. Retitled Alive TV starting in 1992.

The series had no regular host from 1989 onwards. Singer/performance artist Laurie Anderson hosted the 1987 season alongside her "clone" (a digitally altered version of herself).

The series' original theme music was composed by David Byrne of Talking Heads fame.

23skidoo 21st Sep 2015		If you were at all interested in the American "avant garde" arts scene in the 1980s, this was the show to watch. As a big fan of Laurie Anderson's I got a charge out of her intros which were little skits featuring herself and her male "clone" (she also got an entire episode to herself a year before she became the host). There was also a great episode where Bill Irwin, before he went on to become a popular character actor, did a Charlie Chaplin-esque short where he kept invading the sets of various PBS show. Ann Magnuson also hosted for a season during her performance artist days before she fully launched her career as a film actress.
