TV Series
Notes Initially aired locally in Philadelphia from 1952-1957 (during which time original host Bob Horn was fired after being arrested for DUI and Dick Clark began his long TV-hosting career). Clark hosted the series from 1956, though to its move to a national broadcaster in ABC in 1957, through its move to first-run syndication in 1987, and until 1988 when its syndication run ended. David Hirsch was appointed Clark's successor when the series began a brief run on the USA cable network in 1989. Clark attempted to revive the series in the mid-2000s but these plans were preempted when he suffered a stroke. Instead, one aspect of the planned series was developed as So You Think You Can Dance, making that show technically a spin-off of American Bandstand.
