Notes

Followed in 1980 by a brief revival series, Galactica 1980. In syndication the episodes of this series have been rolled into the parent series. In 2003 a new interpretation of the concept aired as a mini-series, followed in 2004 by a full series which, in turn, spawned its own spin-off prequel series, Caprica. Original series cast member Richard Hatch appeared as a different character in the 2004 series.

The pilot episode was originally released as a theatrical movie and contains numerous plot elements excised from the TV version (for example, ongoing villain Baltar is killed off in the movie). Several two-part episodes were also reedited into movie format and released to early home video under titles like Mission Galactica: The Cylon Attack.

At the time it was made, this was the most expensive TV series ever (I believe it was the first series to exceed $1 million per episode in cost). From what I understand that was as much a factor in its cancellation after one season as ratings. Many props were later recycled for Glen Larson's next TV series, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. When they got around to doing Galactica 1980 you could tell the budget had been slashed considerably. I thought the original series was fine. Galactica 1980 ... less fine. I'm sure a lot of BSG fans aren't happy with the decision to make G80 part of the syndicated version.
