Launched by CTV as Canada's first major attempt at a morning news program along the lines of NBC's Today. Initially 90 minutes in length, by 2008 the program had ballooned to 6 hours, though the complete broadcast only aired on the CTV Newsnet channel. At the same time, different versions of Canada AM, with different hosts, began to air in Eastern and Western Canada.

Since 2011, many local CTV affiliates have replaced Canada AM with another similar, but localized, series, CTV Morning Live. The original Canada AM continues to air in markets where a local CTV Morning Live is not produced, on CTV News Channel and some CTV Two stations.

23skidoo 2nd Jun 2016		Now that's a shame. In an effort to "evolve it's programming" CTV is cancelling its morning show after 43 years. Mind you once most major markets started airing their own show instead is days were number, but there's a lot of history here. I think this was the third longest-running Canadian series behind Hockey Night in Canada and The Nature of Things.



23skidoo 11th Jul 2015		I wasn't able to locate a vintage title screen so I zoomed in on the logo used during the 1970s for the image. John Roberts, who hosted during the early 1990s, came over from MuchMusic where he'd been a "VJ" under the name J.D. Roberts. He later went on to work for CBS, CNN and Fox News. Pamela Wallin went on to be a Canadian senator and is currently the subject of some controversy that I won't go into here.
