A much respected show during it's time to the degree it was awarded "Best Music TV Show" status a couple of times. It began life as part of BBC2's late night arts show "Late Night Line Up" and by this time, popular and rock music had gained so much respect and credibility that the BBC were giving it plenty of coverage. Being the early days of colour TV it was decided to create a music show which would also experiment with what was possible with colour.

The format was pretty simple - most weeks would feature one act in a small BBC studio playing half an hour's worth of material. There would sometimes be a colour film insert as well for one song. It gave airtime to a surprising collection of acts ranging from the hugely successful - Small Faces, The Kinks, Manfred Mann and The Hollies - to lesser known ones like Giles, Giles and Fripp, The Eclection and The Lions of Judea. 53 editions were broadcast... sadly only 4 of them survive at the BBC alongside an untransmitted edition featuring The Chambers Brothers. A black and white copy of The Nice's appearance floats around and there are odd fragments from a handful of missing editions. There were also 2 "Best Of" compilations broadcast around the end of 1969.
