I kept this on VHS, including Turner. I give Sagan credit for mentionning what Velikovsky wrote about a heavenly body interacting with earth to create upheavals.
Turner asked him "are you a socialist?" Sagan was an establishment Jew, but answered "I don't know what socialism is". Turner was a conservative with a magic touch, but it was taken from him by Time-Warner, and the "bankers" refused to loan him funds when he was ready to buy the MGM studio. Time-Warner gave him a position without power to "keep him out of trouble", as they would put it.
Yer supposed ta know these things before ya start Ted.

Brilliant series then and brilliant now. And I didn't think Sagan was mad at all. In fact many of his predictions have come true.

There are in fact 3 versions of this series as far as I know. The original, and then about 10 years later when the show reaired on PBS each episode ended with new footage of Sagan updating information given in the episode if there had been new discoveries made in the interim. The original VHS release of the series had an extra episode which was a conversation between Sagan and Ted Turner about the concepts of the series. After Sagan died the series was circulated again, and the first episode featured a touching tribute to Sagan by his wife and Cosmos co-writer, Ann Druyan (who went on to oversee the 2014 sequel series).

Loved the music for this. I greatly enjoyed the 2014 remake series but I really felt that without Vangelis' incredible music it felt lacking.

All I can remember is being enthralled by his ramblings every week.
Not to be missed at the time.

Carl Sagan was as mad as biscuits but I liked this at the time. So-so Vangelis theme. :hapy:
