Selected CastNeil deGrasse Tyson as Presenter

Notes

Sequel to/updating of the 1980 Carl Sagan series Cosmos: A Personal Voyage. Notable for being one of the first series of this type to air on a mainstream US commercial network in decades.

@Monolith: it depends on the circumstances. While I thought he was fine during Cosmos overall, it was when he was clearly going off-script and talking about his own experiences (like meeting Sagan) where he came off the best. This also goes for his other presentations on YouTube, at conferences, etc. where he's talking off-the-cuff. Not everyone can read prepared text well (especially text written by others as is the case with most of Spacetime Odyssey). Sagan himself was hit and miss on this and that show was based on his own work. At times he could be poetic, and at times he was pompous. But he was at his best when he was again speaking off-the-cuff.

I think Neil deGrasse Tyson is an acquired taste.
I find his presenting quite stunted and grating.

While it didn't achieve the same greatness as the original, and it was lacking in some of the atmosphere due to the lack of Vangelis' incredible score, this was still a well-made show. I still find it hard to fathom that Fox aired it as it's not the type of show usually associated with the Simpsons/Family Guy network. Family Guy isn't everyone's cut of tea, but Seth MacFarlane gained a lot of respect from me anyway for producing this (and I assume he's to thank for the fact this aired on Fox and not just the Nat Geo channel).

The show gets knocked for making some controversial statements but the fact is the show wouldn't have done its job if it hadn't. The original series is still being debated 35 years later.
