Notes

One of the longest running serials was this genteel Police drama series. It's intros with Jack Warner in character greeting viewers with "Evening All!" would go into a short piece to camera describing a situation which would lead into the show itself. It would conclude with Warner again delivering a conclusion straight to camera.

22 series were made... 432 episodes. Just a paltry 32 are left in the archives, mostly from the last 3 series by which time Warner was hitting the age of 80, clearly too old to be playing such a part and the last series had him retired but still helping the police as a civilian.

YankeeDisc SUBS 13th Nov 2023		Noel Cronin, the man behind Talking Pictures TV channel, has a short show-reel programme where he previews upcoming shows that are coming to his channel, and he admitted that after much wrangling with the BBC, he has secured for showing around Christmas time 2023….. Dixon of Dock Green. Only 32 episodes (or was it 37?), the rest have been wiped……

23skidoo 14th Jul 2016		An interesting piece of trivia. The character of Dixon, played by Jack Warner, was introduced in a 1950 film called The Blue Lamp. The interesting thing is Dixon was killed off in that film! But they brought him back to life for the TV series.

23skidoo 28th May 2015		It's because of this show that Law & Order often has to be given the caveat that it is the longest-running AMERICAN crime series, because Dixon had it beat by two years. I'm gobsmacked that so few episodes of this survive. And here we complaining that "only" 100 Doctor Who episodes from a 5-year stretch are still missing....Dixon fans must be heartbroken. You'd think the 1970s episodes would all have been kept at least, but this it the BBC. If they had their way there would have been nothing preserved of their productions prior to 1976 or so when they came to their senses and stopped the wiping of programs.
