Notes

Musical teen drama in the some mold as the 1980s series Fame and also similar to the High School Musical film series, though the creators have stated that the series was more inspired by films such as Chicago. A previous attempt at a musical high-school drama for regular network TV, Hull High, was a short-lived failure in 1990.

Very popular for its musical performances (with many CD compilations of music from the show released), though also controversial for its sexual content due to its popularity with young viewers.

Spin-off series: The Glee Project (2011-2012), a reality competition series with the grand prize being a guest appearance on the parent series. The UK talent series Don't Stop Believing was also inspired by Glee. During the show's run the cast toured as a musical show and a filmed record of one performance, Glee: The Concert Movie, was released in 2011.
