Notes

Canadian edition of the US series of same title, with a new set of characters (except Howdy Doody, performed by a Canadian actor in lieu of Buffalo Bob Smith). Notable for featuring future Star Trek actors William Shatner and James Doohan, as well as future singing star Robert Goulet as cast members.

The series was produced by Sydney Newman. A segment of this series, Mr. X, featuring a time-travelling adventurer, has been cited as a possible inspiration for the BBC series Doctor Who, which Newman co-created in 1963.

@zabadak They both started out in Canadian TV at the same time. Doohan was actually very well known in the 50s and actually starred in the very first adaptation of Arthur Hailey's Airport, which was produced for Canadian TV in the late 50s or early 60s. He also appeared in some Space Patrol-like sci-fi series the CBC made, I believe. Shatner went to Hollywood pretty early, though; not long after his stint on Howdy Doody. And don't forget Robert Goulet was in the mix there too! Edit: the Space Patrol-like series I refer to is Space Command, which is now indexed here.

I wasn't able to track down any title screen image for this. The only image I could locate online was a cast photo (so if anyone happens to have a title screen, please jump in!). I don't know if any episodes of this survive but would be great to see Shatner and Doohan in their early years, plus I'm intrigued by the Mr. X serial which it is alleged may have inspired Sydney Newman when he later went on to co-create Doctor Who!
