Musical series launched to cash in on the popularity of the competing series Shindig. The series had no regular host, instead recruiting actors and music stars to guest host, though the Beatles' manager, Brian Epstein, also appeared regular as the show's "London correspondent."

Backup dancer Patrick Adiarte, who the show attempted to launch as a singing and dancing star, later went on to appear as Ho-Jon in M*A*S*H. Dancer Lada St. Edmund became a singer and noted stuntwoman.

The series was originally produced and broadcast in color, but NBC chose to archive the series in black and white; as a result, only a few color episodes are known to survive, the rest existing only in B&W transfers.
