Nothing wrong with a kink aspect!

@Monolith. Back in the day people got sensitive about that sort of thing. (Not everything PC came about in the last 10 years). There was also a bit of a kink aspect that probably made people uncomfortable (remember this was the series where they were forced to use a flesh-colored plug to hide Barbara Eden's naval). Having watched the first season of Bewitched I can see where some modern viewers might get uncomfortable, even though they forget that (as with Jeannie) the most powerful character in the series isn't the husband!

 Can't understand the gender angle.
Jeannie called him Master because that's what genie's do, regardless of sex.
Those old Sinbad movies, the genie calls him Master because that's what he is.
The Genie isn't human and is therefore owned by the one who controls it.
I think also Darren in Bewitched wanted a wife to be just a wife and not rely on witchcraft to fix everything, nothing wrong with that either.

The PC warriors just look for stuff to cry about and if it's not there they twist it to suit their agenda.

Right, someone help me down from this soap-box..........................

@Record Collector: as I recall they played that down as the series went on and the women's liberation movement really took off. (Bewitched similarly scaled back the angle of Darren suppressing Samantha's use of magic.) It's interesting to compare first and final season episodes of this show (and there were also the two TV movie reunions, the first of which actually played up the "liberated Jeannie" angle).

Something I only just learned is that according to a reunion TV movie for The Bob Newhart Show, this entire series may have actually been a dream experienced by Howard Borden, the character played by Bill Daily in the later series!
