Selected CastLeonard Nimoy
 Mitch Pileggi as Host [2002]
 Zachary Quinto as Host [2018]

Notes

Preceded by three documentary specials hosted by Rod Serling that aired between 1973 and 1975. Serling was to have hosted the regular series but died before he could begin work on it.

Followed in 2002 by a short-lived Sci-Fi Channel revival hosted by Mitch Pileggi of The X-Files.

A second revival of the series, produced for History Channel, debuted in 2018 and was hosted by Zachary Quinto who, like Nimoy, had played Mr. Spock in the Star Trek franchise.

Updating to include the third version of the series that has just premiered hosted by Zachary Quinto, following Nimoy's example once again.

Funny they did that successfully(applied 16:9 AR) with "I DREAM OF JEANNIE" (Larry Hagman & Barbara Stevens) but they did it in such a way that neither Hagman, Stevens or any of the other "stars" of the show looked like they went on a feeding frenzy! Still, why bother? The show dates from the 1960s and was shot in 4:3(otherwise referred to as 'Academy' aspect ratio) and that's how it should've stayed.

I agree with Neil 100%. Widescreening anything produced in 4:3 is as bad as colorizing or even worse - pan 'n' scan. In fact it is worse than pan 'n' scan because date cut from the top and bottom of an image is far more distracting than camera movement horizontal. TV show releases on DVD and Blu-ray that are competently produced retain their original aspect ratio. There are some exceptions such as the awful (and instantly dated) Star Trek CGI Remastered and Kung Fu where they didn't keep the aspect ration and serious fans rejected them. If someone really has a problem with a show like In Search Of (or pretty much anything produced for TV prior to 1999) you can usually set your TV to expand the image to widescreen, with the side effect being that everyone's bodies resemble Kim Kardashian's backside.

@RC - Not necessary! Show it as it was made. What's a couple of black stripes either side of the image going to matter?

Unless it can be formatted into wide screen

Even though it's dated(made in the 1970s) and only in the 4:3 aspect ratio, this series would be a great replacement for the utter crap we're having to put up with on Australian TV at the moment.

I certainly don't remember Mitch Pileggi as host but Leonard Nimoy is indelibly etched in my memory as host/narrator of this half-hour documentary series.
