TV Series
Notes English and Japanese language. Originally broadcast in the US as a 5-part miniseries over the course of the week. It became the most successful production in this format since the two Roots miniseries. The series is notable for breaking taboos related to language, violence and sexuality on US network television. A syndicated version of the series was released edited into one-hour chapters. Some versions broadcast do not have Orson Welles' narration which is otherwise used to explain scenes in which the characters speak only Japanese (the producers chose not to subtitle those scenes). A theatrical version of Shogun was released as well, with additional sex and violence but with the 10-hour story condensed into 2 hours. Images
