Preceded by a pilot TV movie that aired earlier in 1985.

Heavily criticized at the time for its violence, the series focused on a female homicide detective with similar violent tendencies to cinema's Dirty Harry. In retrospect, this was one of the first TV series to place a female character in such a role, leading contemporary media to widely dub Katy Mahoney as "Dirty Harriet".

23skidoo 6th Sep 2015		I remember this show when it first came out. At the time there was still a lot of concern over violence on network TV, especially in cop shows. Today, characters male and female regularly stack up the corpses like wood at a lumber yard, but in 1985 the idea of a female detective working on her own was still a novelty, and one who left a high body count in every episode was unheard of. I wasn't able to verify (which is why I didn't put it in the Notes) but I do believe this series was pulled due to its violence. As for the show itself, I thought it was OK. Jamie Rose deserved to be a bigger TV star (I don't think she's played a lead role in a TV series since though she has tons of IMDb credits) and she had good chemistry with the always reliable Danny Aiello who was just coming into his own. I recall that - much like the earlier, similarly violent Strike Force - they also tried to ramp up the humor in some parts of the show to counter the violence.
