TV Series
Notes Launched in 1993 when Letterman left Late Night with David Letterman at NBC as a direct competitor to Jay Leno's Tonight Show. Notable in its early months for the conflict between NBC and CBS over "intellectual property" rights regarding skits and characters imported to the new series. Most notably, character actor Calvert DeForest, who played Larry "Bud" Melman regularly on Late Night, began appearing under his own name. Letterman hosted until 2015, and it was then announced that Stephen Colbert would continue hosting Late Show. As with the Tonight Show and Late Night, although technically a continuation, Colbert's edition of Late Show will carry its own separate branding. The talk show The Late Late Show, launched in 1995, is technically a spin-off of Late Show, as it was initially produced by Letterman. Comments and Reviews
