Notes

Inspired by the 1968 Clint Eastwood film Coogan's Bluff, with the writer of that film credited as the creator of McCloud. Preceded by the pilot TV movie Portrait of a Dead Girl earlier in 1970. Fess Parker, fresh from starring in Daniel Boone, was the original choice to play McCloud.

Initially aired as one of the rotating series that aired under the umbrella title Four in One; later transferred to the NBC Mystery Movie. Episodes aired under Four in One were the standard 60 minutes in length, then became 90 minutes long and later expanded to a full two hours as part of the Mystery Movie rotation.

Followed in 1989 by the reunion TV movie The Return of Sam McCloud. In 2003 it was reported that the USA cable network was going to produce a remake with Brett Butler playing a female version of McCloud, but following the failure of USA's remake of Kojak, this idea was shelved before production.
