TV Series
Notes TV adaptation of the pulp fiction detective. Preceded by a 1960s series of the same title. The Stacy Keach version was preceded by two made-for-TV movies that aired in 1983. The original series aired for two seasons in 1984-85 but was cancelled due to Keach being imprisoned in the UK on a drugs charge. After being released, a TV movie, The Return of Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer, was produced as a pilot and received strong enough ratings that the series was revived with a revised format as The New Mike Hammer which ran for a single season across 1986-87. In 1989, Keach returned in a one-off reunion TV movie, Murder Takes All. Finally, in 1997-98 the series was revived yet again, with Keach returning but other key roles recast, as the made-for-syndication Mike Hammer, Private Eye, which only lasted as season. The Internet Movie Database treats the 1990s series as a separate entity. Images
