Notes

Hybrid game show/mystery series in which a group of improvisational actors inhabited a real-life town in Maine and acted out a murder mystery each week as a group of non-actor contestants interacted with the characters and attempted to solve the mystery before being "killed" by the villain. The series was hosted by a real-life police investigator.

Notable for the fact the winner of the first (and only) season, Angel Juarbe, was a New York City firefighter who died in the 9/11 attacks one week after his winning episode (and the show's finale) was broadcast.

Followed in 2003 by a Brazilian adaptation of the concept and a UK version titled The Murder Game.

23skidoo 1st Oct 2015		Everyone who experienced 9/11 has unique memories. For me, it was the fact I followed this show religiously during the summer of 2001, was quite happy to see Angel Juarbe win (he was a nice guy and deserved it). Last shot of the season was him driving away in his brand new car as he headed back to work as a NYC firefighter. That was Sept. 4, 2001 (the actual episode was taped of course a few weeks or a couple months earlier). A week later the towers came down. About a month or so later I was reading a forum about reality TV and saw a thread saying that the winner of Small Town X had died in 9/11. I found a forum where actual actors and people involved with the show were posting (this was pre-Twitter) and sadly it was confirmed. There's been some conflicting info but apparently he died when one of the towers fell on a hotel that was also destroyed in the attack (most people think only 3 buildings went down in NY but in fact I think it was 4 or 5 in reality but they were smaller structures like this hotel).
