Notes

The original master films for this series were lost in the 1994 Northridge Earthquake, rendering this one of the few major US network series to be lost. A dozen episodes were later recovered and released on DVD, and efforts are under way to find copies of the remainder.

The 1985-1989 sitcom Small Wonder was an acknowledged remake of this series, and both were produced by Howard Leeds.

23skidoo 24th May 2015		For years this series was out of circulation (and matters were made worse when the archive it was stored in was destroyed in the 1994 Northridge earthquake), and a legend sprang up that it was the worst TV series ever made, etc. One of the biggest discoveries related to the recovery of a dozen episodes and their subsequent release on DVD is that the show is actually quite good. There are a few clunky elements that haven't weathered the decades, and Newmar and Cummings have zero chemistry (with Cummings quitting the show midway through its first season) but Newmar is so charismatic in the role that everything else is secondary, anyway. While not the first TV series to feature the idea of an android serving as a companion (that distinction belongs to the very first broadcast episode of the original Twilight Zone, "The Lonely" that featured Jean Marsh as a robot who gives company to an exiled prisoner on a distant asteroid), MLD was followed by a number of series featuring similar characters including Get Smart (Hymie the robot), Holmes & Yo-Yo, Mann & Machine, Small Wonder (which as noted was actually a remake with the Rhoda character reimagined as a child) and even the recent Almost Human.
