 Mädchen Amick as Ariel
 Edward Hibbert as Harry
 Fyvush Finkel as Fisher
 Sylvia Sidney as Clia

Notes

Short-lived remake/reimagining of the 1978-1984 series with a new cast. In this version, Mr. Roarke is explicitly a supernatural being (something only hinted at in the original series) and in lieu of a single assistant, Roarke is assisted by, among others, a shape-shifting woman and the series also features an elderly couple on the mainland who help arrange for the guests' fantasies.

Oh yeah, Mädchen was great as the shape-shifter. And Sylvia Sidney was no slouch when she was a young woman either. This was one of a few projects she did after she was in Mars Attacks and people realized she was still alive. Sadly, I think this was her last performance before she passed away.

The remake distanced itself from the original right away. There was a gag involving "De plane!" that showed they weren't having any of that, and the first thing we see the new Roarke do is intentionally choose a BLACK suit from among a closetful of white ones. And as I mentioned they made no attempt to hide the fact that Roarke was supernatural - either from the viewer or even from island guests who often witnessed him doing feats of magic.

Seriously? There was a remake? With Twin Peaks' Mädchen Amick?

I liked this remake. McDowell was a worthy successor to Ricardo Montalban and I thought the idea of the island being a prison for the people doing the fantasies to be quite interesting. And no offence to the late Herve Villechaize, but Ariel was a lot easier on the eyes than Tattoo or that butler guy they brought in after Herve quit.
