I recently bought an Amazon Fire Stick with Kodi loaded on it so I can watch pretty much anything I want on demand... it's just gone midnight and I've just put Oz on... wish me luck.

Two episodes feature a veteran actor named Dick Boccelli as Heinrick Schillinger. I actually know Dick, having met him a number of times, though I know him by his stage name Dick Richards - he was the drummer for Bill Haley and His Comets in the mid-1950s. He still performs with a version of the Comets as of 2015 and is playing great despite now being in his 90s. I met him for the first time not long after he did his episodes of Oz and he was partly embarrassed, partly amused at having to do a role that apparently involved a lot of swearing. Another Comets veteran, 1970s-era guitarist Bill Turner, played a small role in an episode of Boardwalk Empire. Must be a thing about HBO hiring former members of the Comets!

An HBO production, Oz was a gritty, violent and explicit series set in a fictitious high security prison.

It was shown at some ridiculous hour of the night in the UK - can't remember what channel it was on though but would assume Channel 4 or some such (I'm sure it had adverts, and I can't imagine ITV would show anything as graphic as Oz). I stumbled upon series one by chance one night and was hooked immediately.

Highly, highly recommended.

Many of the actors in Oz would go on to even better things - notably Harold Perrineau (inmate and narrator Augustus Hill) and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Adebisi) who would both later go on to star in Lost.
