I remember watching the very first episode when it went out in 1979. I was 10 years old and visiting Scotland with my parents and we were there about 3 weeks and there was a ton of promotion for this series happening. I remember it was on the cover of a magazine called Look-In that I'd fallen in love with because it had comic strips of things like The Six Million Dollar Man. I was interested because I had a crush on Joanna Lumley from seeing her recently in The New Avengers and I remembered David McCallum from The Invisible Man (doing the math on my age, yes I was a TV fan from very young because my parents liked watching those shows). So I watched the first episode and it made absolutely no sense, but I was intrigued. Sadly, I had to go back to Canada before I saw episode 2. I kept hoping PBS or CBC would pick it up in North America but in my part of the world neither did so it wasn't till the DVDs came out a few years ago that I finally got to see how that first story turned out! The thing that struck me was that it felt very much like The X-Files once you got past the alien agents aspect. Lumley and McCallum had odd chemistry that worked for the series; a few times I was convinced Sapphire and Steel had to have been a married couple!

Big Finish Productions recently attempted a revival in audio drama format but with different actors in the roles and it wasn't the same. (They did however get David Collings back to play Silver.)

I liked it at the time - my mum hated it which made me like it even more!

This is another series I just couldn't warm to, even with David McCallum in it.
