Notes

Based upon a comic book character. Followed in 1984 by a motion picture with Tanya Roberts in the title role, and a 2000-2002 series starring Gena Lee Nolin (in which Sheena is given superpowers). Both productions were reimaginings with no connection to the 1955 series.

23skidoo 24th Jul 2015		@Monolith. That is true, but it also reflects the fact that there really had never been a show quite like this on TV. Sheena, being basically a female Tarzan, needed to be shown doing things that women generally weren't show in those days. If they needed a female stuntperson for, say, Annie Oakley, they could probably find a skilled horsewoman of roughly the actress' size. But you're dealing with someone who was 5'10 like McCalla, there weren't that many performers of that size back then. In fact McCalla originally did her own stunts until she broke her arm swinging on a vine.

23skidoo 24th Jul 2015		Although it's not that uncommon today (they even use one for Clara Oswald on Doctor Who on occasion), in the 1950s this show was a bit of a cause celebre because legend has it they were forced to bring in a male stunt double for Sheena because they couldn't find any female stunt performers who came close to Irish McCalla's Amazonian physique.
