23skidoo 26th May 2015		Shame I was just a touch too young at the time to appreciate a lot of that, but I did have a crush on Barbara Bain for a while and still have a crush on Catherine Schell though she looks odd without the eyebrows (I honestly didn't recognize her when I first saw Return of the Pink Panther and On Her Majesty's Secret Service). It still blows my mind that only a few years before starting to shoot this series (I read somewhere the first episode was actually filmed way back around 1973) Bain and Landau were on Mission Impossible. Seems like entirely different worlds!

That episode actually gave me nightmares back in the day. It was also the first time I'd ever seen that level of gory violence (burned-to-a-crisp corpses, etc.; I was only about 7) and it certainly wasn't something I expected to see on Saturday afternoons when the show aired in my part of Canada! I always laugh when I read how around this time moral guardian Mary Whitehouse was going after Doctor Who for supposed violence despite a complete lack of blood or gore, yet shows like Space: 1999 which were equally pitched to kids (hands up everyone who bought the Power Records real-along comic and record sets) was far worse! That said, they did go from "brown and crispy" to walking lasagnes in the second season so it's possible someone did complain!



BiggieTembo 25th May 2015		Whaat? Can't believe you guys sayin' there's no real memories of this! I watched this when they showed it every Saturday afternoons - it was the Close Encounters of its day! People talk about Arthur C. Clarke inventing the future, an' all that - in this show, the characters had these gadgets that were a walkie-talkie with skype, a scientific testing facility and a phaser all in one! We're bloody walking round with these today, in the guise of our smartphones! Except mine ain't got a phaser :( but the torch is pretty good. There was also a great episode where this ghost-space-ship had some kind of hairy monster in it that would drag its victims in via hypnosis and tentacles and kind of roast them and then eject them out all brown and crispy! Reminded me of me Nan's toad-in-the-hole. Probably tasted the same too :-s

23skidoo 24th May 2015		I have pretty strong memories of "when such and such happened", mostly regarding the second season episodes where Maya was added. But fans tend to consider the first season to be superior as it was more hard SF than the second. I just remember that it was a fun show, and apparently they nearly got a 3rd season but US backing was pulled at the last minute.
