US-New Zealand co-production

Three seasons were produced of this series, with each season carrying a different subtitle: Season 1 was subtitled Blood and Sand, season 2 Vengeance, season 3 War of the Damned.

Following production of season 1, lead actor Andy Whitfield was diagnosed with cancer. At this point production of the regular series was suspended. To fill the gap and prequel spin-off titled Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, featuring many of the same actors but considered separate from the main series, was produced for broadcast in 2011. Whitfield died in the fall of 2011 and production of the main series resumed with Liam McIntyre in the lead role.

Notable for its extreme violence.

23skidoo 12th Sep 2015		Very sad about this show: Andy Whitfield was very popular as the original Spartacus but was diagnosed with cancer after filming the first season and died soon after.
