According to a shotgun identification site I just looked at: "Granny carried a 24" 'The Continental' by Simonis, Janssen & Dumoulin in The Beverly Hillbillies. Sideplate may have 'Pat. June 20 1883' "

@23Skidoo, fair enough your disagreement but I tend to think a female in the thespian(that's "acting" to those who are unfamiliar with the term Thespian) profession has the same talents and skills as her male counterpart, why diminish her by sticking an unnecessary suffix after her career title because of her gender? It would be immediately obvious when you mention her name that it's a female you're referring to in discussing TV shows or movies and who's in them, thus, it's a simple thing to say that "two of the actors in Beverly Hillbillies, Irene Ryan and Donna Douglas are no longer with us", it's clear I'm referring to two female central character actors in the show though I'm not entirely sure if Donna Douglas has passed away. I might have heard it mentioned once but can't remember if or when.

@Neil Forbes. While I disagree with your opinion of using "actress" because sometimes it's necessary to denote that it's a female performer. Not with a name like Irene Ryan, mark you, but there are occasions where a distinction has to be made. However journalism style guides tend to be on your side in terms of using "actor" generically and newspapers are constantly being condemned by people saying they should be using "actress". It's one of the few leftover words with regards to this sort of thing. I haven't seen female pilots referred to as aviatrix for a long time, for example.

" the actress who played Granny, was actually the youngest in real life" Huh? Bloody hell! The make-up department must've done a marvellous job to make her look as old as she did! By the way, the ACTOR was Irene Ryan(I use the same word regardless of gender, adding a "feminine suffix to a word like actor demeans and devalues the work done by female actors).

Well listen to my story 'bout a man named Jed
A poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed
Went out one day, started shootin' at some food
When up from the ground came a bubblin' crude

Oil, that is
Black Gold. Texas T

Funny, these lyrics are ingrained in my memory.
Maybe someone can confirm that the actress who played Granny, was actually the youngest in real life, compared to the other actors? Was that true?

I'm off to clean the Cement Pond now ;-)

I made a comment about My Three Sons being on CBS the same season as All in the Family which was just strange to imagine. Even stranger is for a period of three months in 1971 CBS also was still airing The Beverly Hillbillies!
