Big-budgeted and short-lived, this was a jumbo-sized variety series (episodes ran 90 and 120 minutes) produced by NBC in an attempt to revive the variety show genre. Dick Clark was usually joined by a variety of celebrity guest hosts. The show format was similar to earlier series like Toast of the Town and Hollywood Palace and featured a mix of extravagant music and comedy acts.

A total of 11 installments were produced.

Considered a remake of sorts of a early 1950s radio series of the same format also titled The Big Show.
