Selected CastGraham Kerr as Host

Notes

A followup to Entertaining with Kerr, a popular series Graham Kerr hosted for Australian TV.

One of the highest-rated cooking programs of its day, with British-born Graham Kerr becoming a superstar in Canada and the US, The Galloping Gourmet was known for featuring recipes with a focus on the decadent side of cooking, as well as humor, plus occasional celebrity guests. Kerr was forced to discontinue the series due to injury; when he returned to television, he had abandoned the high-fat lifestyle of the past and his subsequent programs focused on healthy, low-fat recipes.

Videotaped in Ottawa.

I wonder if his brother Wayne got much TV work... :sideways:

@zabadak. Are you one of our members from Australia/NZ?

About as far away as you can get - I'm here waving (drowning?) in the Yook!

When he invited a member of the audience to come up and sample what he'd cooked he'd give them the same fork he'd just used to taste it himself.

This series was shown as a filler on BBC TV in the early 70s. His more recent series (where he'd gone over to healthier cuisine) was shown in mid-afternoon slots in some ITV regions in the 90s.

@zabadak. Are you one of our members from Australia/NZ? I know Kerr was very popular down there which is why he got his show in Canada. For me, I do believe Galloping Gourmet is possibly my earliest TV memory as I recall my mom watching this all this time when it was first run, so I would have been 2 or 3. Kerr fell off the radar for decades after that until a cooking channel started to run some of his more recent stuff and it really wasn't the same! I mean, good on him for promoting healthier foods and low-fat cooking, but Galloping Gourmet was almost a variety show in its heyday.

We used to watch this! Along with Fanny Cradock, Kerr was among the first "celebrity chefs" we heard about...
