TV Series
Notes Pioneering sitcom, notable for breaking the fourth wall regularly, and often ending with the husband and wife duo of Burns and Allen performing an unrelated comedy routine for the studio audience. The series was preceded by a long-running radio show. In both shows, Burns and Allen starred as fictionalized versions of themselves. Poor health forced Allen to retire in 1958, after which the series continued for one more year as The George Burns Show. In 1964, Burns starred in the short-lived sitcom Wendy and Me in which he also portrayed a fictionalized version of himself. Images
