Preceded by a 1958 American film. Two series were made though except for production style the general format was identical. The first series was produced from 1963 to 1965, which was followed by a longer-running revival that aired from 1979 to 1985.

The original series was actually shot in color but was only distributed in black and white; color prints have survived and have been released to DVD, however the opening and closing credits have only survived in black and while.

Both series are notable for not featuring any ongoing human cast members. Although numerous German shepherds were used in the filming of both series, by tradition all were credited under the name "London".

23skidoo 5th Jul 2015		I considered making separate listings for each series but there is precedent for revivals to be rolled in with originals if the format stays the same. The later series went weird after a while. There were some surprisingly dark episodes and I recall a couple nearly bordered on the supernatural (especially with regards to the dog). They managed to get their hands on some impressive guest stars in the later series, including one of DeForest Kelley's only non-Star Trek appearances.
