The original series ran from 1993 to 2002 and spawned two spin-offs: Millennium and The Lone Gunmen, as well as one feature film released during the show's run, simply called The X Files, and a reunion film in 2008, "The X-Files: I Want to Believe". The series itself was revived as a continuation beginning in 2016 with the original core cast returning.

Although the show's title is officially hyphenated as "The X-Files", the on-screen title is actually simply "The X Files" without the hyphen.

zabadak 31st May 2019		Last I heard, Gillian Anderson had "left the show", implying there would be more series but without her. This was about a year ago and I've not heard anything since... :sideways:
23skidoo 30th May 2019		I put a 2018 end date on this as Fox TV is on record that there are no plans for further seasons. Obviously this can be changed if they decide otherwise.
23skidoo 16th May 2016		Latest news report is Fox is saying the show may return for another season in 2017-18 (basically whenever they can line up the actors who have other series). So for now I think we should keep the end-date on this open as the series most definitely isn't cancelled; Fox is just doing the UK thing (where with some shows there are often a year or two between seasons as we're seeing with Doctor Who and have seen with shows like Red Dwarf) and leaving things open at the moment.

Magic Marmalade 17th Jan 2016		Ads are on Channel 5 for the new series starting in "early February" in the UK. The return of Skullf*%k and Mildew.... woohooooo!! (New Gotham on now, and Heroes Reborn soon too... well donw Channel 5 for deciding to stop being generally awful)

23skidoo 22nd Jun 2015		I know there's a new series starting in January but should we be listing it as a continuation? I know we do it with Doctor Who but that's an explicit continuation, whereas this new series could be more like a revival/reunion series.

RadoxTheGreen 19th May 2015		No, I haven't gone potty, it really is a current series. The first episode of the new series of the X-Files premieres in the USA on Sunday January 24th, 10pm on Fox Network, after the Superbowl.
