Short-lived attempt at launching a syndicated late-night talk show in direct competition with Johnny Carson's Tonight Show. Canadian host Alan Thicke spent 1980-1983 hosting the popular Alan Thicke Show in his homeland, but this follow-up series was a major failure. Thicke's next project, however, was the successful sitcom Growing Pains.

I remember I'd never been so disappointed as when I tuned into Thicke of the Night that first show hoping it would have the same feel as his Canadian show (just with a bigger budget and a better set) and I don't think I was able to sit through the first episode.

23skidoo 16th Nov 2015		There was so much pre-promotion for this show that some critics began to call it "Sick of the Hype." I was actually a fan of Thicke's laid-back, if low-budgeted, Canadian talk show but they pretty much dropped everything that made that show popular when they did this one. Put another way, they tried to make Thicke another Johnny Carson when they'd have been better off making him another Mike Douglas who either had or was winding down his talk show career at this time.
