Although I agree with the reviewer here that it felt like a rush job to get in there before Cameron's film was released - and it doesn't hold a candle to either it or the 2012 miniseries - it's not without its charms and is far from being the the worst Titanic production (that distinction goes to the infamous 2000 animated film Titanic: The Legend Goes On with its rapping animals, 12-minute-long closing credits and disclaimer on the DVD box about it being a family-friendly version of history where no one dies). Catherine Zeta Jones, who at this time was riding high from her appearance in Antontio Banderas' Zorro film, is fun to watch, and frankly so is Tim Curry. It's a pleasant enough diversion. And I've actually heard some people say they prefer it to Cameron's film in some respects. So your mileage may vary. Given the choice of which TV retelling of the disaster to watch, though, I'd still opt for Julian Fellowes' 2012 miniseries first.

This production was a rush job to capitalise on the forthcoming James Cameron blockbuster in 1997. I am not surprised to learn the show sunk just like it's namesake. I know in the Genre list it states History but in the case of this series I would take that to be in its most loosest sense. It's a dreadful production with poor acting, poor dialogue, poor sets, poor CGI and littered with loads of inaccuracies, there's even people having a good old barn dance on the lower decks that looks more like a scene from Little House On The Prairie. I think this one belongs at the bottom of the ocean along with the ship. If you're a fan of the Titanic then truly give this one a by-ball it's three hours of your life you'll never get back.
