TV Series
Notes A show that was primarily designed for deaf or partially deaf children, this show created by Patrick Dowling and Ursula Eason became one of the best loved, and most unique shows of it's time. Pat Keysall would use sign language as she spoke but generally each episode would feature the barest minimum of dialogue as it's focus was on visual fun with a variety of films, inserts and TV trickery. Who could forget "The Professor" films and Wilf Lunn running amok with his inventions? Then there was the legendary Tony Hart creating the most extraordinary art in the simplest way. Then of course there was "The Gallery" where viewers could send in their own creations which was where one would hear THAT piece of music everybody remembers and associates with this show, "Left Bank Two" by The Noveltones. It ran for 12 series. The last series saw mime artiste Ben Benison replaced by a certain "Sylveste McCoy" a decade before he became the 7th Doctor Who. Yes, as you might have guessed this being a BBC show, episodes were wiped, but from what I recall from seeing a list of what's survived a few years ago, over half of what was transmitted sits about in the BBC archive... unlikely to ever be repeated or issued on DVD thanks to it's high musical content which would mean an expensive clearance nightmare.
