Notes

Preceded by the 1974 TV movie Wonder Woman (starring Cathy Lee Crosby as a drastically reimagined version of the character), and the November 1975 TV movie The New Original Wonder Woman which introduced Lynda Carter as version of the character closer to that of the comics. The weekly series launched in April 1976 but the first season aired sporadically between April 1976 and February 1977, after which ABC cancelled it. CBS picked up the series and reformatted it as a spy series set in the 1970s at which point it also began to follow a more reliable weekly schedule.

Not having seen the original comment I can't, er, comment, but the fact is the star of this show was Lynda Carter and her costume. The show itself was secondary, really.

Not that I don't have fond memories of the original show. There was one episode where, of all things, stock footage from Space:1999 was used! (There was a scene set in the future and to represent a future city they used establishing footage of Moonbase Alpha.) That same episode actually added some darkness to the show because it established that the world would be destroyed by nuclear war in 2007 (though Diana would survive and continue as serve as Wonder Woman for centuries) and this plotline is never resolved so that mean in the universe of this show the world likely ends a few decades later!

I forgot to mention in the notes that in 2011 there was a well-publicized attempt at remaking the series with Adrianne Palicki (Agents of SHIELD) in the title role. Although Palicki did well, the writers got the character completely wrong (making her a cold-blooded killer and a general all-around sullen jerk) so it never went past the pilot stage and the pilot has never been officially shown or broadcast anywhere.

And I was only commenting that her costume wouldn't cut it on the Milan catwalk.

Alright - who's deleting me and Monolith's comments then? I was only commenting upon that fact that Lynda Carter's figure was aesthetically pleasing to those with the artist's eye. Is romance dead?
