It'll Be Alright On The Night (1977 - Now)
There have been so many of these type of programmes over the years and a lot of DVDs have gag reels as extras it's easy to forget how unusual it was in 1977 for TV and film companies to let you see their mistakes.

I've added one for No.2 which is the earliest that seems to be available.

Target (1977 - 1978)
Seen by many as the BBC's answer to The Sweeney this was a gritty, violent (for the time) cop series. Needless to say, Mary Whitehouse was not a fan.

The Clangers (1969 - 1972)
There's a new series of the Clangers starting on CBeebies on Monday at 5.30. It's still going to use the original stop-motion animation of the original and is narrated by Michael Palin.

Rock Goes To College (1978 - 1981)
Series that featured up and coming bands with the odd established name live from universities and polytechnics. Despite what Wikipedia says this was not broadcast simultaneously on radio.

Pop Quiz (1981 - 1994)
I went to see an edition of this being recorded in 1981 at the BBC TV Theatre in Shepherds Bush. Although it wasn't the first one filmed it ended up being used as the first one shown . I can remember Cozy Powell, Suzi Quatro, David Grant and Christopher Neil being on it but have no recollection of either Paul Jones or Roger Taylor who were on the show also. Maybe because I wasn't much of a Queen fan and a bit too young to know how famous Paul Jones had been.

Silent Witness (1996 - Now)
I couldn't stand this when Amanda Burton was in it but since Emilia Fox it's one of the most consistently good things on TV.

The Racing Game (1979 - 1980)
Based on stories by Dick Francis this is an entertaining series about a jockey who is forced to retire through injury and becomes a private investigator in the racing world. Something I remember enjoying when it was first on, I was glad and surprised to see such an obscure series released on dvd.

The Kenny Everett Video Show (1978 - 1981)
I always preferred this to the BBC one. It was unusual in that the laughter came from the studio crew (and there was Hot Gossip).
Went right off him after his appearance at the 1983 Tory party conference.

Strange how this has been largely forgotten considering it's well up to the standard of Porridge.

The Sandbaggers (1978 - 1980)
The blurb on the back of the DVD says that the New York Times called this the best spy series in television history and they're not far wrong. It was written by former Royal Navy officer Ian Mackintosh and is a more words than action series about of a small elite covert team inside the British Secret Service.

Bouquet Of Barbed Wire (1976)
I was far too young to be allowed to watch this in 1976. Having watched the dvd a couple of years ago it all seemed pretty tame by today's standards. The only really shocking thing was how domestic violence was accepted as just something that happens in marriage.

Enterprise (2001 - 2005)
I enjoyed it more when I watched the box sets a couple of years ago. I think they should have done earlier what they did in season 4, that was exploring the historical events which shaped the original series.

Much maligned and deservedly so. The original run ended inn 1988 but was revived in 2001 for a couple of years.

Lost In Space (1965 - 1968)
I only ever caught the repeats of series 3 shown on ATV in the first half of 1974. It quickly became my favourite programme, probably because I wanted to be Will Robinson. Channel 4 showed a complete run in the late 80s and it all seemed a bit juvenile although enjoyably camp.

There is, apparently, a blu-ray release planned later this year for the 50th anniversary.

Filmed in the village of Aldbury, location used for many films and tv series including The Avengers, Inspector Morse and Midsomer Murders.
