Magic Marmalade 23rd May 2015 | | TVUnder The Dome (2013 - 2015) | They stole the plot of the Simpsons movie!
|
Magic Marmalade 23rd May 2015 | | TVLater... With Jools Holland (1992 - Now) | I actually prefer the second album, but it just fed more into my melancholic nature... it is more of an acquired taste... a bit darker.
Third is a bit hit and miss... Thankfully they didn't just try recycling old material with it, tried to push themselves with inventive stuff like Machine Gun, which is the highlight, and Magic Door is a bit of a trippy psychadelic 60s thing which is an odd choice for them, but good song nonetheless. But Is truggle to recomend it much after that.

Magic Marmalade 23rd May 2015 | | TVRoger Mellie: The Man On The Telly (1991) | fantastic!
Still all true as well. :)

Magic Marmalade 23rd May 2015 | | TVLater... With Jools Holland (1992 - Now) | Portishead, sadly not enough work from them, but we do have Tricky's first album too (and to a lesser extent massive attack - Mezzanine is great, never really got on with Blue Lines or Protection, but for the odd songs on each) .... ooh, and of course: Everything but the girl: Walking Wounded.
By the way, where is this filmed?
I've got a feeling it's not too far from me... Maidstone or thereabouts?
(Squeeze: Maidstone, is the best christmas song for me, even though it's not a christmas song... bags of crimbo winter feeling)

Magic Marmalade 23rd May 2015 | | TVRoger Mellie: The Man On The Telly (1991) | I'd completely forgotten about this!
Hillarious!!!

Magic Marmalade 23rd May 2015 | | TVCountdown (1982 - Now) | Can't beat a bit of countdown!
|
Magic Marmalade 22nd May 2015 | | TVChildren Of The Stones (1977) | Just had a look at this:
Wikipedia: Children Of The Stones
|
Magic Marmalade 18th May 2015 | | TVShooting Stars (1993 - 2011) | No show on TV represents mid-late nineties Britpop era more than this to me.
(TFI Friday second perhaps).
|
Magic Marmalade 18th May 2015 | | TVThe Good Life (1975 - 1978) | Amen :)
|
Magic Marmalade 17th May 2015 | | TVHave I Got News For You (1990 - Now) | I love this... just frustrating they keep doing a couple of shows, then getting bumped for some other nonsense for weeks.
Every now and then you get someone on twho looks a little lost, and contributes absolutely nothing, and you think: "Why did you bother"!
|
Magic Marmalade 17th May 2015 | | TVChildren Of The Stones (1977) | How about a search on youtube function to go with the ebay and amazon rovers?
(Would work with all worlds too)
|
Magic Marmalade 17th May 2015 | | TVChildren Of The Stones (1977) | Available on DVD?
I love me standing stones and ancient burial grounds.... got several near me I occasional have a good yomp to (Usually with Led Zep thrashing away in me ear-'oles).
Julian Cope is very into his stones too, and I believe he is the founder (or strongly associated with) the Megalithic Portal website, which is great for finding where these hidden treasures are (More about than you think!).
|
Magic Marmalade 16th May 2015 | | TVChildren Of The Stones (1977) | Never heard of this... but appeals to my Old English Pagan sensibility with just the title.
What's it all abaaaat deltic?
|
Magic Marmalade 15th May 2015 | | TVThe Tube (1982 - 1987) | I had to catch episodes of this when my Dad wanted to see a particular band... otherwise I had to wait till the folks were out of the room to flip over and catch bits and bobs.
But let's not be too hard on Jools... the guy has been almost single handedly holding up the musical universe for the Beeb since the music industry imploded in the face of new Technology and the TOTP shit-storm began. Many performances would not have been recorded in this period if it hadn't been for his show.
Personally, I only tune into Later... occasionally, as the artist selections can be a little too "safe" and predominantly established artists, but it's better than nothing (Or those god-awful, insipid "music channels" we now have).
Bout time BBC produced a show to replace TOTP that has that essential democratised, prime time ethos that reflects the public taste of the time (as only a chart based show can).
The show and the music it captured is more important to our culture than the odious crimes of individuals who may have appeared on it.
(lecture over.... normal service shall now resume :)

Magic Marmalade 13th May 2015 | | TVBreakfast (2000 - Now) | This is on too late in the day for me :)
|
Magic Marmalade 10th May 2015 | | TVThe Word (1990 - 1995) | This was the first of the kind of shows that used to occupy that late night booze binge slot in the nineties....
You'd been to the pub, were more than a little smashed, and needed something to stare at till the nausea went away, and you could creep safely to bed and get some sleep.
While other shows at various times fulfilled this function for me, like the ITV chart show, James Whale (AAaaaarrrghh!), that thing with Graham Norton and Davina McCall, Tour of Duty, Crime Story, and a whole host of other stuff, this was truly memorable for all the reasons you've all pointed out, and to a degree that frequently punched through my drunken haze into my longer term memory like a repeated set of traumatic experiences I cannot repress!
