The Akron Compilation
My copy must be a later pressing, as it doesn't have the scratch and sniff sleeve.

15 Oldies But Goodies
Many many years since I played my copy - I think track B6 is more properly titled 'Sercy [Cerasee] Tea'. B3 is an odd one to include as it's Rock Steady, which goes against the grain of the rest of the tracks.

Na Fili And Seán O'Sé

One Day For Recreation
Upon further research, this is not the only Circa record which was also issued by Talisman. Note all the 8000 series were specifically Irish issues whereas the 1000 series were issued from the UK.
The Talisman issued sleeve dates from about 1984 where the LP was actually pressed in 1978. Perhaps Talisman bought up the stock and then issued the sleeveless vinyl with their own sleeves, thus creating a cut and shut issue.

Forms And Feelings
Press shortly before November 9, 1969. But released to the British public until February 1970, due to legal issues with the Holsts.

March 7, 1970 MM

Feb 26, 1970 Runcorn Weekly News

Feb 20, 1970 The Motherwell Times

Contrary to popular belief. Without taking into account its original niche in the printing. Its launch is later than the American edition dated January 1970.

Tighten Up Vol. 6
Always interesting to try and work out why certain tracks were selected for these compilations.

Track B5 was actually the B side of Jackie's cover of Billy Stewart's 'I Do Love You', so was it chosen so that Jackie would get some royalties out of what was his original composition? Track B6 was two years old by the time this comp came out, so why include it? It was a commercial offering certainly not out of step with `72 but nobody barely seems to remember it when there were much bigger Reggae 45s from that year on the company's various labels. The other explanation of course is that Trojan may have made a commitment to the producers on its roster that x amount of their singles would be included on the company's comps.

Track A5 is actually by Carey and Lloyd.

Toots And The Maytals

In The Dark
I think this needs a separate entry for the release on the Dragon label, which is how it came in 1974/75 together with an inner sleeve advertising a competition to win a holiday to Jamaica (I wonder if anybody ever won as Trojan had gone into liquidation at about the time the winners were to be announced).

I can only guess that when Marcel Rodd bought out Trojan copies were then pressed with a Trojan label using the same Dragon catalogue number and left over Dragon sleeves, which appears to be right going by the image pictured here.

Prince Buster

Dance Cleopatra
Played this yesterday and in the many intervening years since I listened to 'On Tour' had completely forgotten how Buster changed some of the lyrics to suit a UK centric audience. So we have 'fish and chips and a cup a tea' on 'Take It Easy'!

Would love to know who the backing singers are - probably lost to time but think they sound pretty good.

This Is Soul
Based on the two tracks I'm hearing here, the emphasis is on jazz rather than soul. But hey, that would have been a much more difficult marketing angle. I do check some of these budget price comps where I'm sometimes surprised by how the do-overs can add a bit of a different dimension to the original, and in a positive way.

Original Golden Oldies Vol. 2
Added this Jamaican reissue copy which sits in my collection.
Sleeve is more of an orange colour non laminated whereas the UK sleeve looks 'redder' and laminated.
Track A6 is actually by 'The Movers'.
The 1967 date on the label looks like an afterthought?

Original Golden Oldies Vol. III
One I don't have, although it'd be the UK press I'd want despite the JA press probably being easier to track down. I imagine the UK wouldn't have done much business - the two volumes of the Buster Original Golden Oldies fell into my hands easy enough back in the 80s but I don't think I ever saw this one.

It looks it was reissued (legally?) by the usual Korean/Japanese companies.
What's more intriguing is a digital YouTube release from 2014, which omits some tracks but introduces 5 never heard before tracks, check this playlist
