Fokeman ● 14th Mar 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumBlack Sabbath - Black Sabbath (1970) | I may be O CD but I'm so relieved you've done that! Thanks.
Fokeman ● 9th Mar 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumBlack Sabbath - Black Sabbath (1970) | It's always nice to see someone using the turntable to put concentric biro marks on a Vertigo label.
Fokeman ● 9th Mar 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumBlack Sabbath - Black Sabbath (1970) | I think there may be two different label types where one set of labels has "Made In France" and the other has no "Made in France" at all on the labels. I'll put both up in the next few hours.
Fokeman ● 4th Mar 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumVangelis O. Papathanassiou - Earth (1973) | #nboldock, your later pressing black labels date from about 1980.
Fokeman ● 4th Mar 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumClear Blue Sky - Clear Blue Sky (1970) | Thanks. I did check yesterday and it certainly says "The Rocket Ride" on my French copy. I'll update images asap. The "Play it Loud" tagline is entirely absent from the French issue, appearing neither on the spine nor on the label.
Fokeman ● 3rd Mar 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumClear Blue Sky - Clear Blue Sky (1970) | The Rocked Ride is as it appears on the label. However I suspect that (as with the UK issue) it should have actually said "The Rocket Ride".
Fokeman ● 2nd Mar 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumNazareth - No Mean City (1978) | Original issue on the coloured paper label with spaceships. This later label is round about 1980 when a whole slew of black label vertigo / transatlantic / logo / various other polygram labels came out with the same black painted labels with silver text.
Fokeman ● 1st Mar 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumBill Haley And His Comets - Bill Haley And His Comets (1966) | This is NOT on the Transatlantic label. It is on the XTRA label. It is certainly true that XTRA belonged to Transatlantic but it had a very different profile and exists in its own right in the database.
Fokeman ● 29th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumJoe Cahill - Ireland's 32 And Other Irish Favourites (1960) | I'm trying to find out the explanation for the existence of this record with the catalogue number 1018 when nothing exists between 1012 and 1018. Any information would be most welcome. Were there plans for five other releases which never saw the light of day? I don't think it's the case but were the other intervening numbers ever actually issued? 1013, 1014, 1015, 1016 & 1017?
Fokeman ● 26th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumSean Ryan Trio - Back Home To The Cliffs Of Mohir (1971) | Sean Ryan the fiddle player. Not to be confused with Sean Ryan the tenor.
Fokeman ● 25th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - A Tribute To President Kennedy (1964) | It's just possible that this doesn't exist. Shamrock often put 901 on the back of their other LPs but they made the President Kennedy Tribute LP 501 so it's possible to find it with this number. I certainly believe it was planned to issue this one as 901 but as they say "There's many a slip 'twixt cup and lip..."
Leastways, by the time 903 was issued, both 901 and 902 were no longer in catalogue or advertised for sale on the back of the later LPs.
Fokeman ● 25th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - The Best Of Dixie (1981) | Trying to find the White Label name anywhere on this release.
Fokeman ● 23rd Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumBlack Sabbath - Vol . 4 (1972) | Originally this was imported into France with import stickers on UK issues. Eventually, France printed their own version with just a single sleeve and originally, the classic French white label with Swirl.
Fokeman ● 23rd Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumCarl T. Sprague - The First Popular Singing Cowboy (1978) | This was missing from the 1976 catalogue when the catalogue already went up to 15009.
15004, 15005, 15006 were all "Not Issued Yet" by the end of 1976. So the 1978 date is correct. The rear of sleeve has the 1978 publishing date at the bottom.
Fokeman ● 23rd Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumSpooky Tooth - It's All About (1968) | My matrix codes are
Side 1: ILP ST SC A (I'm assuming ST=Stereo, SC=Stereo compatible)
Side 2: ILP ST * B (where * is a B strikethrough or some other mess)
Fokeman ● 23rd Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumJanne Schaffer - The Chinese (1974) | Thanks Burton LeB. Taking photos with the cellophane still on, never produces the best images. Your images have now been promoted.
Fokeman ● 23rd Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumJanne Schaffer - Janne Schaffer (1973) | A Europa Film issue but later reissued with the same catalogue number on Four Leaf Clover.
Fokeman ● 23rd Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumJanne Schaffer - Janne Schaffer's Andra LP (1974) | This was later reissued with the same catalogue number on the Four Leaf Clover label.
Fokeman ● 23rd Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumMick Greenwood - Living Game (1971) |
Neil Forbes wrote:
This Italian MCA label is, I assume, the stock version rather than a promo label
No, this is the promo version (Vietata La Vendita).
Fokeman ● 22nd Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumRobbie O'Connell - Close To The Bone (1982) | Well if you rescued this, you were well rewarded. A wonderful folk album with brilliant instrumentation and musicality.
Fokeman ● 22nd Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumDon McLean - Homeless Brother (1974) | Song credits for George Harrison and A. Glenn (Artie Glenn) are both wrongly attributed on the labels. Correctly attributed on the rear of sleeve.
Fokeman ● 19th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumBilly Hanafin's Shamrock Band - Traditional Irish Long Dances (1961) | Maybe you right, maybe you ain't. I took a train from New York to N.J once and it didn't take very long.
Fokeman ● 19th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumBilly Hanafin's Shamrock Band - Traditional Irish Long Dances (1961) | Approximately September 1961 from RCA Custom Pressing information. Pressed in New York. Not too far from the Boston headquarters of Copley / Gael Records
Fokeman ● 19th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumRoyal Philharmonic Orchestra Conducted By René Leibowitz - The Nine Symphonies Of Beethoven (1966) | RCA pressing details suggest a 1961 pressing. What could explain the 5 years difference?
Fokeman ● 18th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Smash Internment And Injustice (1972) | I suppose I should add that this was not just an Outlet subsidiary but also Release. R & O - Release and Outlet.
Fokeman ● 18th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumStray - Stray (1970) | I've added original labels and sorted out the images with tape on them or which have the die-cut damaged.
Fokeman ● 17th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumJethro Tull - WarChild II (2022) | Made in Germany, but I'm not sure this qualifies as being exclusively a German issue. I think it was/is available to be bought in France and the rest of Europe, so that is probably a fair compromise. Note also that as well as the GEMA rights collection agency mentioned, there is MCPS, which would accord it a UK issue too.
On the rear of sleeve, bottom left, it refers to Parlophone Ltd. which must surely be a UK company with the Ltd. company status for UK tax purposes.
Fokeman ● 17th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumGentle Giant - Octopus (1972) | We can date the first issue of this German version to 1972. If anyone has images of the original issue, we can put them on this same page. The catalogue number is identical.
Fokeman ● 16th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl Album[no artist listed] - Tribute To Gary Glitter | In my defence. This was sent with something I actually wanted. No money passed hands for this offensive relic.
Fokeman ● 16th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Halliard - It's The Irish In Me (1967) | Yes SAGA SOC with STSOC as the prefix on the label and just SOC 1058 on the back of the sleeve.
