Fokeman 20th Jan 2025 | | Vinyl AlbumRay Lynam And Philomena Begley - The Two Of Us (1973) | I think this label must be from a reissue. I believe the original had a black label with silver lettering.
Fokeman 14th Jan 2025 | | Vinyl AlbumColosseum - Valentyne Suite (1969) | Also came out on the same catalogue number with the first Vertigo Swirl label - Swirl on one side and credits on the other.
Fokeman 12th Jan 2025 | | Vinyl AlbumBlack Sabbath - Born Again (1983) | I'm just listening to this and I'm far from convinced by it. I always loved Ozzy's vocals but when he left I also loved Dio's contribution particularly for Heaven & Hell. I'm a big fan of Deep Purple and the Ian Gillan Band. I went to see Gillan at his height with "Gillan". But this is neither Sabbath nor Gillan. It has a Run DMC vibe in "Zero To Hero" with a talking vocal rather than what I'm used to with Black Sabbath. I'm going to play it all the way through but I'm struggling to enjoy it the way I enjoy almost everything else they've ever done.
In short, it's just not Sabbath any more.

Fokeman 11th Jan 2025 | | Vinyl AlbumDave Peace Quartet - Good Morning Mr. Blues (1969) | Notable for the presence of Dave Pegg of Fairport Convention on bass.
Fokeman 11th Jan 2025 | | Vinyl AlbumDave Travis - Country (1968) | I'm afraid my B side label suffered a SNAFU at the moment of application.
Fokeman 11th Jan 2025 | | Vinyl AlbumAtomkraft - Conductors Of Noize (1987) | I'm thinking that this may be another example of a record which was planned for release but which never saw the light of day. It was issued in Europe but I think it only exists as a test-pressing in the UK. The test-pressing didn't have the fully finished cover.
Fokeman 11th Jan 2025 | | Vinyl AlbumRoisin Dubh - The Witch's Song (1987) | This required 5 edits and a missing track adding. Please be more careful when adding information.
Fokeman 8th Jan 2025 | | Vinyl AlbumUriah Heep - ...Very 'Eavy...Very 'Umble (1972) | So it's quite possible (probable even?) that it came out in November or December 1972?
Fokeman 6th Jan 2025 | | Vinyl AlbumUriah Heep - ...Very 'Eavy...Very 'Umble (1972) | If you can deduce a date by using reference to Discogs, then you are doing better than me. There are several tens (hundreds?) of records issued in New Zealand on Discogs with Phonogram Ltd. showing somewhere and issued in 1972. I'd be surprised if they managed to issue all those records in the last month of the year. And we're also assuming that the information on Discogs is reliable...
Fokeman 4th Jan 2025 | | Vinyl AlbumMike Oldfield - Tubular Bells II (1992) | As far as sales go, there are 71 for sale currently shared across 12 different European countries. 6 in Germany, 6 in Italy, 6 in Greece, 3 in France. Europe seems like a good compromise.
Fokeman 4th Jan 2025 | | Vinyl AlbumUriah Heep - ...Very 'Eavy...Very 'Umble (1972) | Can you please check the spelling of the group? (It was listed as Uriah Heap). Best guess for the date is that it was released at the same time as the very similar Australian issue with the same catalogue number in September 1972.
Fokeman 3rd Jan 2025 | | Vinyl AlbumDominic Behan - The Irish Rover (1961) | I wonder if the double spelling error of MacAlpine was perhaps deliberate in order to avoid criminal proceedings?
Fokeman 3rd Jan 2025 | | Vinyl AlbumMarianne Faithfull - Faithless (1978) | One look at this and I'd say it was an Irish pressing. Everything about the label says Ireland to me. I can't help but think that this was for the UK & Irish market, despite the printing being done (in a hurry presumably?) in The Netherlands.
Fokeman 3rd Jan 2025 | | Vinyl AlbumBlack Sabbath - Black Sabbath (1976) | This is a UK issue. Manufacture in France was perfectly normal for a UK issue at this time. The clincher is that there is no sign of the SACEM badge to indicate a real French issue. So far the only owner is based in the UK, which also makes the point for what I'm saying.
Fokeman 2nd Jan 2025 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Godz - Contact High With The Godz | Note: We only use "Stereo LP" as a tag if there was both a Mono version and a Stereo version when it was issued.
Fokeman 2nd Jan 2025 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - De Que Arride Coum U Tistèt (1972) | Literally "De quoi rire comme un panier". Humorous stories from Béarn in France.
Fokeman 31st Dec 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumPrimitivo Vargas Y Los Guapachosos De La Costa - Morenita Encantadora | This being something of a family affair, we can see that the full name of the Primitivo Vargas who is the leader of the group is Primitivo Vargas Herrera.
Fokeman 30th Dec 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumIan Gillan Band - Live At The Budokan Volumes I & II (1983) | My record labels show the track listing as shown here. However, something clearly went wrong. The rear of sleeve shows that the record company pasted over track A2 with "Smoke On The Water", and for good reason. This double LP has two versions of "Smoke On The Water" in BOTH A2 and D1. Despite the paste over on the rear of sleeve, the record company never got as far as to change the labels, so the labels still say A2 - My Baby Loves Me, but this does not seem to actually appear on the record.
I'm wondering now, how many of the double-LPs available internationally, had "My Baby Loves Me" advertised on label and sleeve, when the record actually played another version of "Smoke On The Water"?
Fokeman 28th Dec 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumBe Bop Deluxe - Bop To The Red Noise (1986) | There's an error in all of this...
As is hinted at with the title, Bill Nelson was the group leader of two distinct groups - Be-Bop Deluxe and then Bill Nelson's Red Noise. Both groups recorded for Harvest Records but these tracks are NOT all by Be-Bop Deluxe.
It may not be clear on the label of this issue who recorded what but it would be the work of only a couple of minutes to separate the two named groups and give the correct credits on this release.
Fokeman 28th Dec 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Tighten Up Volume 4 (2002) | As regards the track B5, it was originally credited to The Lowbites (or The Low Bites) with composer credits Webster, Bryan, Sinclair but even on quite early issues Lee Bogle appears on the label and The Lowbites on the sleeve. "Shrowder, Bryan, Sinclair" was the credit on the Black Swan version. Webster was "Webster Shrowder" so it was just an error of giving the first name rather than the family name of the composer. He also appears occasionally as W. Shroeder on a Ken Boothe single.
With track A6, it was originally (and incorrectly) given as Julien (intended as Julie Ann or Juliane) and the Gaytones. Juliane was an alternative name for Judy Mowatt. I've never seen her name become Jean (apart from on this LP) which is a long way from Juliane or Julianne.
It seems that even on the first UK Trojan issue of this as a single, it had the wrong credits See here... although they eventually gave it the correct name "Judy Mowatt and The Gaytones" on a later Trojan HOSS single issue See here...
Fokeman 24th Dec 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - A Feast Of Irish Folk (1977) | Track A6 has become "Tabhair Dom De Lamh" instead of "Tabhair Dom Do Lamh".
Track B4 has become a traditional song instead of written by Englishman "John Conolly" of the English group "The Broadside".
Fokeman 23rd Dec 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumStreetwalkers - Downtown Flyers (1975) | I don't know if it is possible to date a Vertigo release from a colour phase in the label, but I've just bought the darkest possible Spaceship label example of this record. The blue colour is so dark it's almost difficult to read the black text because there's not enough contrast between the two colours. From experience, the darker and richer the colour of the labels, the earlier it is.
Fokeman 23rd Dec 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumLed Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin [IV] (1971) | Just picked up a beautiful mint copy of this for an absolute bargain price. On the original red & plum.
Fokeman 23rd Dec 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumTriumvirat - Old Loves Die Hard (1976) | I've been looking out for this, after really enjoying Barry Palmer's work with Mike Oldfield. Just found a nice copy.
Fokeman 22nd Dec 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumCreedence Clearwater Revival - Mardi Gras (1972) | I have a slightly different (earlier?) label and sleeve. The label has the Stereo in a more ornate cartouche.
Fokeman 22nd Dec 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumPaul Brady - Welcome Here Kind Stranger (1978) | Just returning to this record and just cannot believe how beautiful and complete it is as a package. He could and should, after leaving the Johnstons, have created at least 5 different records like this one, before branching out into Hard Station, which was, in itself, a tour de force. He wrote some great songs in the 1980s but I just wish that he had seen fit to do more amazing traditional work that he did on this album and the "Andy & Paul" LPs which preceded it, rather than going straight onto the Rock/Pop phase.
Fokeman 17th Dec 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumNeva Eder - 40 Favourite Nursery Rhymes (1976) | In keeping with Hawk's aim to release the best of Irish Folk and Rock, they make the decision to release an album of Nursery Rhymes from New Zealand. Go figure!!!!
Fokeman 14th Dec 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumPeer Günt - Backseat (1988) | Slightly doubtful about the existence of this although it was planned for release according to certain sources.
Fokeman 14th Dec 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumWarfare - Mayhem, Fuckin' Mayhem (1987) | The most reliable site for Neat Records online is https://thecorroseum.org/labels/neat.php which seems to be sure about the release date. So I suggest we go with 1987 until absolute proof to the contrary.
Fokeman 14th Dec 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumToy Dolls - The Toy Dolls Album (1985) | This was a reissue of 1982 recordings. I think the 1985 date was correct. The correction request stated released in July 1985. The following records on the label were released shortly thereafter.
