George Slv 13th Dec 2023		Vinyl Album Billy Strange - Great Western Themes (1969)	Review This type of western music is always interesting. It must have been recorded using the Wrecking Crew studio band in Los Angeles. It is not a large orchestra like Don Costa used with Al Caiola and some songs suffer for it. Mostly it's enjoyable. Each song is preceded by sound effects, like a cattle drive or Indians whooping it up. George Slv 8th Oct 2023		Vinyl Album Various Artists - Funky Hits (1975)	The front cover says 25 Funny Funky Hits, which I take as the title. The back cover says 25 Krazy Kookie Hits, which I will take as a description. The disc label says Funky Hits. The Little Richard songs are the Vee-Jay rerecordings. See You Later, Alligator is a rerecording, but a heavier beat.
George Slv 23rd May 2023		Vinyl Album Brook Benton - The Best Of Brook Benton (1984)	This was also sold in Canada. The sound quality is superb, and all stereo. There is no reason to link this with the Netherlands LP with the same title. [Mod: removed link]

George Slv 30th Aug 2022		Vinyl Album Various Artists - The Dimension Dolls Volume 1 (1963)	I had this album in the 1960s. Cheap from a pawn shop. Now they sell for 3 figures. BUT I also saw a volume 2 later in the 60s. They are saying there was no volume 2. Most of the cuts are demos by the staff singers. Now I have a cassette of it retitled Carole King Plus, from 1991, I expect from digital. Oh! Oh! It Started All Over Again was a great B side by Brenda Lee.
George Slv 28th Jul 2022		Vinyl Album Don Gibson - The Best Of Don Gibson (1965)	Now what's this notes about electronic stereo on this mono LP. That is physically impossible. Must pertain to the stereo LP. Note should be withdrawn. And I'm wondering if they would have used the hit single masters on this LP. RCA's handling of his Best LPs is strange. So many hits left out but garbage like I Think It's Best included.
George Slv 20th Jun 2022		Vinyl Album Ray Stevens - Gitarzan (1969)	Review This is entirely a live album from some club. Renditions are good, enough to be released as hit singles for some. Being on the Monument label they could not reuse his Mercury hits. Ahab The Arab is the short version, expanded here by audience and band sounds. George Slv 19th May 2022		Vinyl Album The Drifters - Our Biggest Hits (1964)	Review I was never aware of this album. It turns out to be the same as Under The Boardwalk except it includes Drip Drop from the late 1950s in place of that hit. They must have just switched their attention to the Boardwalk LP soon after. As a hits LP this one is dire. Only 3 hits. It illustrates the trouble they had after Leiber and Stoller left the company. The other staff were not very good at picking hits. B2 and B3 are rather bizarre compositions. It's possible to enjoy a few of the others. Vaya Con Dios was a good single I thought, but radio decided it was just a remake of an earlier hit and did not promote it. 3 people found this review helpful. ✔︎ Helpful Review?

Somebody was asking $300 on Discogs. Another sale was for $60. Now I know a collector in St. Louis who found a copy at a local store for $10. No matter which value you listed on this page I would consider it meaningless

George Slv 18th Jun 2021		Vinyl Album Elvis Presley - For The Asking : "The Lost Album" (1990)	To answer my own question. The back cover says the last 3 songs were recorded in January 1964, so they were not intended for the 1963 album release. I wonder what the original title would have been? I think there are some weak songs on there that would have dragged the LP down, like A5, A8, B3. Some others are mediocre. I fear the LP could have been a flop if it had been released. Some of these were added to the 1965 regular LP Elvis For Everyone. I'll have to review the original lineup, and some of those songs should get featured videos here. Thankyou verr mush. I am leaving the building.

George Slv 9th Dec 2020		Vinyl Album Bill Justis - Raunchy And Other Great Instrumentals (1969)	Review This is good listening for the type of music. Nothing else on it is the caliber of Raunchy. There are errors in the compilation due to the new owner not identifying the master tapes properly. The Stranger is incorrect, it should say The Stinger. The Stranger was a soft vocal on the flip of College Man. College Man is far from being the single master tape. It omits the intro vocal of "We hate college ....". The volume levels are faulty - it starts off too low and halfway the engineer raises it. Raunchy is the correct single recording but not the single master. The volume has a wide range and the guitar does not have a strong impact. The single sounds better. Many reissues now duplicate these errors and Raunchy does not have as good a reputation as it should. I know that after 1971 there was a legal dispute with Mike Douglas and Douglas lost the right to the official name. Just as well, considering the travesty he was making of the music (adopting the ugly 1970s styles).
