jaimeeduardo 30th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumFreddy - Freddy Auf Hoher See (Songs Of The Sea) (1962) | Freddy (or Freddie) also records as Freddy Quinn; real name is Manfred Petz.
The label is somewhat confusing for track 1: "Einleitung" (Introduction) is a monologue by Freddy with fragments of music as background. Presumably these fragments are of the first two songs named on the label. These two songs are named on the cover as if they were complete tracks, which they are not.
Some songs are traditional (Volksweise), others composed.

jaimeeduardo 30th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - History Of British Rock, Volume 3 (1975) | The cover appears to be damaged, but the blur is really smoke rising from a motor.
|
jaimeeduardo 30th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumOlivia Newton-John - Totally Hot (1978) | Track B1 reached the U.S. top ten in November 1978.
Lyrics on inner sleeve.
|
jaimeeduardo 30th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumMarlene Dietrich - Marlene Dietrich (1957) | As the liner notes say, this is an album that recalls her career and the music during World War II. The songs are mostly nostalgic, but B5 offers a bit of fun.
|
jaimeeduardo 30th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumLos Freddy's - Los Freddy's (1979) | Peerless (Mexico) also appears as publisher. Cat. no. appears to be from Peerless.
Notes on orthography/language: interesting that the A side orthography of personal names is incomplete on the label while the B side is complete and correct. The container shows correct orthography for all names. It's often useful to scan all sources for orthography if one doesn't know the non-English language well.
Track B4 has an interesting title beginning with "El que ..." Speakers of languages other than Spanish often assume el means the. It often does. In this case, however, it has the meaning of he. The title El que pierde una mujer translates as He Who Loses a Woman. As a further complication, in this special instance, he is not written with the usual accent as él, but without accent. So while one should see Él or él to mean he, in this case el also means he, not the. As a matter of style, capital letter vowels are sometimes written without accents, so one needs to pay attention to the context in translating. It's often said that the "little words" in Spanish cause problems, even for native speakers. This title illustrates one such case.

On track 6, Bernes seems to be a variation for Bert Berns.
|
jaimeeduardo 29th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumElmer Bernstein - Original Sound Track Recording Of Walk On The Wild Side (1963) | The bluesy title song sung in the film by Brook Benton reached Billboard #42 in Feb. 1962. His version doesn't appear on this album, however. The movie stars Laurence Harvey, Capucine, Jane Fonda, Anne Baxter, Barbara Stanwyck. The quality noir film with its stellar cast and memorable music are worth seeing/hearing.

|
jaimeeduardo 29th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Kingsmen - The Kingsmen In Person Featuring Louie, Louie (1963) | The studio version of Louie Louie reached Billboard #2 in Nov. 1963. It one of the most influential rock songs ever; even proposed as the Washington State state song (it's a local product-- Kingsmen from Portland, Oregon). The anarchic qualities of sound and lyrics of Louie, Louie set it apart.
Pub. date 1963 is probable.

Not having any luck dating this. Probably late forties or early fifties.
|
jaimeeduardo 26th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumJulio Iglesias - El Álbum De Julio Iglesias (1982) | Songs sung in Spanish except for tracks E2 in Galician and F4 in English.
An interesting quirk of orthography is seen on track F5, the name Chaplin is transformed into a Spanish version, Chaplín. This reverses the pronunciation of the surname, something often seen in Spanish names rendered into English (Pérez to Perez, etc.). Another quirk is the orthography on "Marti," without accent. This would also reverse the pronunciation from the well-known Martí (as in José Martí, famous Cuban revolutionary and poet).

A2 Ernani, fly with me --
A3 My native land --
A4 Love, fly on rosy wings --
A5 Joan's Prayer --
B2 I shall die, but first, in mercy --
B3 As in this dark hour.
Tracks A1 and A4 are the prizes here. The Bolero is fast and bright with a thrilling high E; the Trovatore excerpt captures the intense feeling of the aria and is capped by a fine high D-flat (often substituted with a lower note).
