Cristina Deutekom - Cristina Deutekom Zingt Opera-Aria's
Disc container title: Cristina Deutekom zingt Mozart aria's.
Side B label has typos on B3: Or sal [sic] chi l'onore rapire a me voise [sic] is correct on container: Or sai chi l'onore rapire a me volse.
Full title of opera on tracks A3, B1-B2 appears on container: Die Entführung aus dem Serail.
Pub. date estimated 1965-1975.
Odeon label pasted over pub. on container.
Charles Vanderzand is conductor's name.

This is a strong recital by Cristina Deutekom. Some of Mozart's most demanding arias (A1 and A2 with stratospheric high Fs) are presented here with fully voiced, intense and consistent singing. The coloratura technique is unusual in that each note is distinctively articulated. I've never heard anything like it.

Issued in container with booklet (40 p.) including photos and brief bios of the performers, notes on the recording, and Italian libretto with English translation.

"Selected by the Metropolitan Opera."

Automatic sequence. (This means sides 1 and 4 are on Disc 1, sides 2 and 3 on Disc 2; matrix numbers in similar order).

Issued also in mono: LM-6095.

This is one of the most popular of all operas. Solo tracks A8 and A9 are standard recital/audition numbers. B2 is also popular on recital discs. B7 is often referred to as "Musetta's Waltz." It also exists in a popular song version which was a hit in 1959 for Della Reese under the title Don't You Know.

Back cover shows soprano Anna Moffo in an especially striking photo. RCA's container photos featuring this beautiful singer are of superlative quality, and no doubt helped sell her also beautiful recordings.

Library of Congress Control No.: r 61001376 (using pub. date of 1961; however, libretto is c1962).

Joan Sutherland - Handel Arias (1965)
Disc title from container spine.

Additional performer credits:

A1-A2: London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Richard Bonynge
A3-A5, B2: New Symphony Orchestra of London conducted by Richard Bonygne
B1: Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, conducted by Francesco Molinari-Pradelli --
B3-B5: London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Adrian Boult.

Issued also in mono: 5941.

The repertoire presented here represents an unual aspect of Sutherland's career as a star of opera since some of these Handel selections are from oratorios rather than operas. Sutherland made these oratorio arias into star vehicles with her spectacular singing (listen to B1), and these oratorios represented important steps for her early in her career. Many opera stars leave this repertoire unexplored.

Container has typo on A1: "Tirania [sic] gelosia ..." should be "Tiranna gelosia ..."

Joan Sutherland - Verdi Arias (1966)
Title from container spine.

Additional performer credits:
A1, B4: Paris Conservatoire Orchestra conducted by Nello Santi; A2 with John Dobson, tenor
A2-A4: London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Richard Bonynge
B1: Chorus and Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, conducted by Francesco Molinari-Pradelli
B2-B3: Orchestra of the Maggio Musical Fiorentino conducted by John Pritchard; B2 with Carlo Bergonzi, tenor.

Issued also in mono: 5939.

Track A4 is one of Sutherland's best. This aria is early Verdi, still using the florid vocal style from an earlier era of opera. This is Sutherland as the "warrior" coloratura soprano, a strange sounding term, but one that is believable when listening to this performance. The rapid scale passages rising to an impossible high E at the end push the human voice to the limit. Sutherland earns her nickname "La Stupenda" with such singing.

Maria Callas, Francesco Albanese, Ugo Savarese - La Traviata (Grosser Querschnitt)
Sung in Italian.

This single LP contains excerpts from a complete (usually 3 disc) album. Complete performer credits for the full album also appear here:

Maria Callas, Ede Gandolfo Marietti, Francesco Albanese, Ugo Savarese, Mariano Caruso, Alberto Albertini, Mario Zorgniotti, Chor und Orchester des Italienischen Rundfunks Turin, Gabriele Santini, Dirigent.

Italian track titles appear on container:

A1 Libiamo ne'lieti calici --
A2 Un dì felice, eterea --
A3 E strano! - Ah, fors' è lui - A quell'amor -- Follie! - Sempre libera --
A4 De' miei bollenti spiriti --
A5 Pura siccome un angelo
B1 Di provenza il mar --
B2 Teneste la promessa - Addio del passato --
B3 Parigi, o cara - Ah! Gran Dio! Morir si giovine - Ah, Violetta! Voi Signor?

Track breaks are odd, perhaps to save space. Curious too is the exclusive use of German on the label for a completely Italian production.
