LaurenceD SUBS 19th May 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumBruce Springsteen - Royalty Of Rock : A Celebration Of The Rock Empire (1982) | I do not have the cue sheet.
The title "Bruce Springsteen I" would suggest that there was an additional hour or program, not sure. A summary of the four segments from listening:
segment 1: narration; BS snippet; "Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)"; Jimmy Iovine snippet; "Born To Run"
segment 2: (BJ ?) snippet; "Thunder Road"; narration; Robert Hilburn snippet; Cameron Crowe snippet; "The Promised Land"
segment 3: Flo & Eddie snippet; "Hungry Heart"; narration; "Out In The Street"
segment 4: "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out"; (?) snippet; "Blinded By The Light"; Cameron Crowe snippet; "I'm a Rocker"

LaurenceD SUBS 19th May 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumJohn Lennon - Royalty Of Rock : A Celebration Of The Rock Empire (1982) | A cue sheet (which I don't have) was provided with each program. A summary of the contents of each segment:

LaurenceD SUBS 13th May 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumBill Haley And His Comets - Rock Around The Clock (1955) | Added front cover & label scans from a later pressing. The cover was rearranged to accommodate the stereo release.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 8th May 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumRoy Acuff Jr. - Roy Acuff Jr. (1970) | The cover shows the catalog number as LSP-150, which I assume is an error.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 8th May 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumBorn Ready - Bad Boys (1980) | The running time is about 7-8 minutes per side, so I guess I'd call this a mini-album.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 8th May 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Everly Brothers - Born Yesterday (1986) | Added scans. I hid the existing cover image (1956839), which does not appear to be from the USA release.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 29th Apr 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumGoose Creek Symphony - Welcome To Goose Creek (1971) | Added red labels. I'm assuming that the existing label scans (853913, 853924) are the green ones, photo'd under poor lighting conditions.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 29th Apr 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumMarie Powers - In Concert (1952) | Looks like the folks at Atlantic ventured outside their normal territory with this release. I don't know if they tried something similar again.
BTW you can see that both sides of my copy have labels that have been pasted over other labels; the ones underneath have a slightly different layout.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 26th Apr 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumThe United States Of America - The United States Of America (1968) | Co-composer Ed Bogas credited correctly on the sleeve; on the labels as E. Bogus
|
LaurenceD SUBS 15th Apr 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumCyril Ritchard - Alice's Adventures In Wonderland (1957) | I suppose that the copy that I posted here is not a first pressing, seeing the labels with "Bill Grauer Productions, Inc." crossed out.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 11th Apr 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumJosh White - Josh White Sings (1966) | Compiled from Mercury LP releases from the 1950s and 1960s. Some tracks may also have been taken from Josh's Keynote albums from the 1940s (the Keynote masters were acquired by Mercury in 1948). I would have to listen and compare various tracks to be sure of their sources though.
I estimated the 1966 release date - the earliest mention of the Blue Ribbon label that I've found is from Record World, March 12, 1966. It was one of the 'higher-grade' labels from Premier, at $1.98 retail. This LP, along with the other 9 items shown on the back cover, was part of the initial Blue Ribbon release.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 9th Apr 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Country Opera (1966) | We had an entry here for the stereo release with no images, to which someone added scans for the mono release. I created a mono entry T 5045 and moved the images over there. As a result, the ownership on this one might not be quite correct now.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 9th Apr 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumJudy Henske - The First Concert Album (1966) | From Jack's liner notes: "The first night, liquor wasn't served and the audience reactions were not what we expected. The second night, liquor was served and everyone reacted as though they'd been drinking. The musicians also had their share of refreshments ..."
Listening to Judy's introductions, it sounds like she had her share of those refreshments. But her singing is just fine...
|
LaurenceD SUBS 9th Apr 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Goldcoast Singers - Here They Are! (1962) | Some differences in track titles between cover & labels; I used the cover titles, which seemed more correct.
Billboard Dec 24, 1966, p.50: "A 'Special' Way of Selling":
"... This World Pacific release had virtually no sales throughout the country until Pellegrini and Nordstrand [WFMT Chicago] began playing a cut called Plastic Jesus ..."
[YouTube Video]
I don't know about Chicago, but growing up in the Los Angeles area, I recall that some time after this release (can't remember just when), it seemed like a lot of folks were singing that "Plastic Jesus" song. I guess that some local radio station had played it...
BTW listening to this again, it sounds like these guys just borrowed the melody from Woody's "Oklahoma Hills" refrain.

LaurenceD SUBS 6th Apr 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumPete Seeger and the Hooteneers - Sing Out! Hootenanny (1963) | I don't have the lyric insert for this LP, but the pdf is available at the Folkways website here
|
LaurenceD SUBS 4th Apr 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Hootenanny At Carnegie Hall (1960) | My images are from the 2nd pressing, with © 1963 on the back cover, along with the 121 W. 47 St. address.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 4th Apr 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumPete Seeger - Sing Out With Pete (1961) | Added scans including larger front cover, with respect to Elmore
|
LaurenceD SUBS 25th Mar 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumGlen Campbell, Rod Dillard, Doug Dillard, Dean Webb - 12 String Guitar! / Folk Blues & Blue Grass (1963) | It looks like this release was first released around August 1963 with no "Folkswingers" credit (as seen on this version), and was listed in the trade mags as by "Various Artists". Sometime thereafter, around October, the Folkswingers designation was added to subsequent pressings.
So for this item I used the artist credit from the back of the cover and linked that artist to The Folkswingers. Hope that's ok.
BTW this one is pressed on a dark red translucent vinyl.

LaurenceD SUBS 25th Mar 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumRedd Foxx - Laff Of The Party: Volume 2 (1956) | Added alternate pair of labels; cover is the same as edlongus' { 1999545, 1999546 }
|
LaurenceD SUBS 25th Mar 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumRedd Foxx - Laff Of The Party: Volume 1 (1956) | Added another set of label variants; the cover is the same as that from edlongus { 2180120, 2180122 }.
I also merged another entry; only difference was the "Volume 1" appended to the album title.
BTW the cover lists track A1 as "Backward Conscience". After listening to that track, I still can't say which was the intended title.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 16th Mar 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumPete Rugolo And His Orchestra - Music For Hi-Fi Bugs (1956) | These sessions were recorded with mikes set up for mono and stereo mixes. After this LP was released in mono, the stereo tape (Mercury MDS3-1) was released in 1957.
The stereo tracks appeared on later LP releases:
- Mercury SR 60118 Music From Out Of Space (1959)
- Mercury SR 60119 Rhythm Meets Rugolo (1960)
- (with track A1 retitled as "Stereo Space Man")
|
LaurenceD SUBS 5th Mar 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumHerbie Hancock - Monster (1980) | Added larger front cover scan with respect to rocket71
|
LaurenceD SUBS 5th Mar 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Hollywood Rock ´N Roll Record Hop (1956) | First pressings of this release have the Modern labels. The one that I have posted has the Modern cover, but with the Crown 5011 labels.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 5th Mar 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Sedaka - Neil Sedaka And The Tokens And Coins (1963) | Tracks A1 and B1 are from the Melba 104 single; track A3 sounds like something from the same 1956 session, probably the track that Praguefrank refers to as "Don't Go".
To my ear, tracks A1,A2,A3 and B1,B2 sound like rechanneled stereo, and the others (which do not sound like Neil Sedaka) might be actual stereo.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 28th Feb 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumRay Scott With Herb Carneal And Halsey Hall - "Last Of The Ninth..." Twins Pennant Drive In '65 (1965) | Growing up on the West coast, I did not have the opportunity to hear these guys, but listening to these highlights I can appreciate what a terrific broadcasting team they were:
Ray Scott (1919 - 1998)
Herb Carneal (1923 - 2007)
Halsey Hall (1898 - 1977)
This bio of Halsey Hall from SABR is quite entertaining.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 28th Feb 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumTimi Yuro - Soul! | This release is not actually the Soul! LP as we know it, but instead consists of tracks selected from Timi Yuro's first four Liberty LPs.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 16th Feb 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumCarolyn Hester - Carolyn Hester (1962) | Much improved, thanks
|
LaurenceD SUBS 16th Feb 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumCarolyn Hester - Carolyn Hester (1962) | Sorry about the masking tape on the cover... tried to remove it, but did more harm than good. A better cover scan would be welcome.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 16th Feb 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumDon Shirley - Plays Show Tunes (1960) | Title on labels: "Plays Show"
|
LaurenceD SUBS 10th Feb 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Dave Clark Five - Coast To Coast (1964) | I've added scans from the release with the two alternate track titles:
- A2: "I Can't Stop Loving You" vs. "Give Me Love"
- A4: "What Is There To Say" vs. "I'm Left Without You"
Assuming that it's ok to put them here. The actual recorded tracks are the same.
Oh, the labels also have the "Produced by Adrian Clark" credit.
