LaurenceD SUBS 24th Sep 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumOriginal Broadway Cast - Lenny (1972) | Added scans for cover and labels. The 12-page booklet and poster are missing from my copy.
LaurenceD SUBS 12th Sep 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumBaxter Robertson - Panorama View (1983) | I was curious about the USGS image on the cover and so tried to locate it, assuming that it might be somewhere in Southern California. Couldn't find it. But I know that the (coastline) inset is of the Sycamore Creek area in Santa Barbara.
LaurenceD SUBS 5th Sep 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumBurl Ives - The Wayfaring Stranger (1949) | Yeah, in those cases where the track titles varied between cover/insert/labels, I chose the form that was used 2 out of 3 times... :-)
LaurenceD SUBS 30th Aug 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumDuane Eddy - Duane Eddy (1987) | The labels look ok, but these cover and inner sleeve images are from the UK issue (EST 2034).
LaurenceD SUBS 28th Aug 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumSusan Reed - I Know My Love (1954) | Although it's not mentioned in the sleeve notes, these tracks seem to have been culled from two RCA Victor albums from 1947, M-1086 "Folk Songs And Ballads" and M-1107 "Folk Songs And Ballads, Volume II". However I cannot account for "Fare Thee Well"; perhaps it had been previously released with a different title...
Just speculating: I wonder if the positive response from Susan's Elektra LP from 1954 prompted someone at RCA to unearth these recordings for a cash-in attempt.
The 1954 release date is an estimate; could be early 1955.
LaurenceD SUBS 22nd Aug 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumLes Paul And Mary Ford - Swingin' South!! (1963) | Regarding the recording dates in the notes: The tracks from the 1962 sessions all feature Mary Ford on vocals, while the tracks from the 1963 sessions are instrumentals.
LaurenceD SUBS 22nd Aug 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumFrank Heppinstall - Trio By Heppinstall (1961) | Unfortunately Frank's name was misspelled on the labels as Neppinstall.
LaurenceD SUBS 22nd Aug 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumHumble Pie - Thunderbox (1974) | Added front cover from a later version, with the 'keyhole' filled in.
LaurenceD SUBS 20th Aug 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumLotte Lenya - Lotte Lenya Sings Berlin Theatre Songs By Kurt Weill (1955) | Original release in gatefold sleeve with 6-page booklet. My scans are from a later pressing in a plain jacket.
LaurenceD SUBS 24th Jul 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumCyril Jackson - Afro-Stereo (1958) | Apparently this LP was released in stereo format only.
I saw the notes at the Esoteric LP CPT-551, but it looks like that record company decided to change its name to Counterpoint by this time, as seen on the back cover:
- Successors to Esoteric Records, Inc.
- Copyright 1958, Counterpoint Recordings, Inc., 333 Sixth Ave., New York

LaurenceD SUBS 21st Jul 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumMose Allison - Takes To The Hills (1962) | Tracks A3,B3 taken from Columbia CS 8240 "Transfiguration Of Hiram Brown" (1960)
Tracks A5,A6,B5,B6 taken from Columbia CS 8365 "I Love The Life I Live" (1961)
The remaining 6 tracks are new as of this LP.
LaurenceD SUBS 21st Jul 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumKenny Solms And Gail Parent - Our Wedding Album Or The Great Society Affair (1966) | Added label scans.
The back cover (and Billboard) indicate a stereo release (JLPS 3028), but I have yet to see any visual evidence of its existence.
LaurenceD SUBS 15th Jul 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumOriginal Broadway Cast - The Roar Of The Greasepaint (1965) | The play opened on Broadway on 16 May 1965. This is a case where the original cast album was recorded by RCA Victor prior to the New York premier.
LaurenceD SUBS 15th Jul 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumDella Reese - What Do You Know About Love? (1959) | I added an alternate back cover scan (2697352) and paired it with Diognes' front cover (643724), which matches mine. While I was at it, I expanded the composer credits as shown on the cover.
Note that for track A2 "When I Fall In Love", the cover (correctly) credits Edward Heyman and Victor Young, while the label (incorrectly) credits Albert Selden. The 1952 Heyman/Young composition is the much more frequently heard one, versus the Selden song (from the 1948 musical Small Wonder). In fact I have yet to hear a recording of Selden's tune.

LaurenceD SUBS 29th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumRay Charles, Mojo Buford - On Stage At The Palladium (1963) | Runouts:
side 1: V-519-1 A-0102-A
side 2: V-519-2 A-0102-B
Despite the 'stereo' designation, all of the tracks are mono.
There are two versions of the cover:
- (other) front has yellow and red lettering;
- track titles on back mostly match those on the front
- last paragraph on back cover mentions "Mo Jo and the Mo Jo Chi Fours"
- (mine as posted) front has yellow, red & blue lettering;
- track titles on back completely different from those on the front;
- last paragraph mentioning "Mo Jo" is omitted
To conclude, this release is somewhat notorious for its deceptive presentation, but as it turns out, the Mojo Buford tracks are pretty good and make it worth keeping.

LaurenceD SUBS 22nd Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumRick Nelson - Million Sellers (1963) | Added scans for alternate labels, and alternate front cover with 'stereo' sticker. The back cover is identical to edlongus' { 1607882 }.
LaurenceD SUBS 19th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumFleetwood Mac - Mystery To Me (1973) | I see that Bob Welch's track "Good Things (Come to Those Who Wait)", which was bumped in favor of "For Your Love", was finally reissued in 2020 as a bonus track in the 8-CD set Fleetwood Mac 1969-1974.
LaurenceD SUBS 16th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumJimmy Nelson [Ventriloquist] - Instant Ventriloquism And Ventriloquism For The Beginner (1964) | Yikes... at least the labels look good. Hello edlongus, I have posted scans from a non-contaminated cover, along with the two inserts. The blue insert also contains 6 additional pages of dialog for the various routines, which I did not upload. If somebody really wants them I can provide those as well. I was actually surprised that this LP was already posted here; Though I admit that I'm not really into ventriloquism, I picked up this LP because I like Jimmy Nelson.
LaurenceD SUBS 16th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumDon Ellis - Shock Treatment (1968) | I have posted here the second/corrected version of this LP. The first version, with a different track selection and various edits, was issued without Ellis' knowledge and was apparently reviewed as-is in Downbeat. Upon Don's request, Columbia reissued the LP with the tracks as Don had originally intended (and with the same cat#). You can read about the details here.
I have not yet determined just when this second version was issued. Also, I have read that there were some interim pressings that contained the newly mastered disc, but still had the old liner notes that referred to the old track listings. I have not seen one of those...
Runouts for this version: XSM136645-2F / XSM136646-2D
LaurenceD SUBS 16th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumMalcolm Arnold - The Bridge On The River Kwai (1958) | The cover front { 2671335 } that I posted is from the first issue I think, as it lacks the "Academy Award Winning Score" bit.
LaurenceD SUBS 16th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumSpike Jones - Dinner Music For People Who Aren't Very Hungry (1957) | Added orange labels; track B5 has different composer credit & publisher: Jones/Lindley Music
LaurenceD SUBS 16th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny Rivers - Golden Disk (1969) | Track titles from sleeve. One mistake on labels: A4 = Greebaek dollar
LaurenceD SUBS 12th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumHarry James And His Orchestra - The Man With The Horn (1955) | Posted improved scans with respect to GimmeVinyl
LaurenceD SUBS 10th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumEarle Hagen - I Spy (1967) | The 2nd of two "I Spy" LPs from Earle Hagen, the 1st being Warner Bros. W/WS 1637 (Oct 1966).
Some remarks about the music from Hagen can be read at the Film Score Monthly site.
LaurenceD SUBS 10th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - Golden Greats Beach Boys Rare Early Recordings (1981) | Added scans for back cover and complete front cover, with respect to TOKENHIPPIE.
The total running time for this LP is a bit over 17 minutes.
LaurenceD SUBS 7th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumJimmy Dean - Portrait Of Jimmy Dean (1962) | No mention of the included souvenir portrait on my copy.
LaurenceD SUBS 7th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumJimmy Beasley - Twist With Jimmy Beasley (1962) | Added scans of the (earlier?) labels and 'twist' back cover, that was used for several of Crown's twist-related releases. Interesting to note that this back cover design was almost a straight copy from the Atlantic 8054 LP, liner notes and all.
LaurenceD SUBS 7th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumBill Haley And His Comets - Rockin' The Oldies (1957) | Added scans of an unblemished back cover with respect to caseellerbroek. It just so happens that on my copy, the front of the cover has writing all over it...
LaurenceD SUBS 1st Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumPeggy Lee - Raindrops (1971) | Added scans for back cover and labels.
I don't suppose that the performers on such records as these had any say or were even aware of the products being promoted. Placidyl (Ethchlorvynol) was very addictive and frequently abused back in the day...
LaurenceD SUBS 29th May 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Cramps - Songs The Lord Taught Us (1980) | The original cover is pretty easy to spot. Besides listing the first track as "Drug Train" instead of "TV Set", the text is white on the front and blue on the back.
